    Re: Cayman GT4

718 GTS are already 365 hp. why they would do a "6" woth 5hp more?

Besides...some Cayman models of this generation arriving in 2021? Even if they changed the name from 981 to 718 or whatever, it's basicly the same car, and was presented in Geneva 2012. That would be 9 years...

Which would you rather have?  I'd take the NA Flat-6, even if it had less power than the 4-cyl...

So are they awared that the whole 718 line in 4 cyl was a mistake?

They didn't do it by choice, but to comply with regulations.  I suspect that they will keep the 4-cyl for the less expensive versions.  Maybe eventually hybrid or full electrification will happen...

    Re: Cayman GT4

I’m intrigued by a return to a flat 6 mid engine Porsche. I have kept my 981 GTS for the NA 6 and manual tranny. I also prefer the conventional suspension to PASM, although it makes the car a little less flexible in “use cases”. But I could be convinced to buy again if they return to a NA 6 outside of the GT4.

The manufacturer of the gearbox for the GT4 changed the process for creating 3rd gear (welding on the splines), which resulted in some failures for some cars.  Primarily cars built in 2016 I believe (so all the early 2015 builds are fine).  Porsche had been replacing gearboxes with a fixed gear already, but I'm guessing they have worked out some deal with the supplier, and so the rest of them are being changed out as a precautionary measure.  Recall hasn't been announced in U.S. yet though, so we shall see.

It was claimed to be 4.0L (which implies NA or it's got a bigger turbo engine than a GT2 RS Smiley)

Yep, the GT4 gearbox is actually based on an Audi box...

    Re: Cayman GT4

Every review I read about the 4cyl. Boxsters / Caymans start with something like "yes, the sound is a nightmare, unless you always liked the sound of an exploding beetle engine", however or therefore, I do not see potential for "variants" as they would IMO eat into the already not really booming sales of these 4cyl. But, hey, if Porsche manages to get all these variants expected / rumoured (manual yes / no; fixed wing yes / no etc. ...) through the WLTP certification process...we will see...

    Re: Cayman GT4

Don´t know if the 718 6 would eat into the 4-cil sales.

i think they will be more expensive, sort of 981 GT4 prices, maybe

They should just drop / swap the current exhaust system...

    Re: Cayman GT4

Whoah, what a looker! Absolutely love the looks of this! Let's hope ther'll be a proper N/A 6 cyl in there...

    Re: Cayman GT4

The car has 19" wheels and the standard S/GTS brakes.
This is not a GT4 Touring, so unlikely a N/A engine.

Cayman/6 or 982.2 test car. In both cases I expect turbo engines.
I have some hopes for a smaller F6 turbo engine. Maybe around 2.4L to replace the 2.5 F4T.

I also think that the hybrid 992.2 version will get a smaller F6T engine. With the added power of the electric motors, the combustion engine need less power and can be downsized.
If not the 992.2 base with hybrid would have a round 450hp....

So does all this suggest that a 6 cyl turbo will fit in the 982 platform, which differs from why Porsche said they went w/ a 4cyl?

This are only hopes of people that don't like the F4.
I still believe the 991.2 3L F6 turbo dies not fit, but a new smaller F6 turbo maybe.
What fits for sure is the 3.8 oder 4.0 F6 N/A engine!

Fit means a lot of different things to different people.

for example, If you ask a gearhead engineer, he will say of course it will fit, he will MAKE it fit.

If you ask an accountant, the answer will be no it doesn't fit.
