"PCNA is off to a great start with the new 911," said PCNA CEO Peter Schwarzenbauer. "In just four days time our customers have purchased 376 of the new models. The new 911 combines the engineering our customers expect with the best of the Porsche's sports car tradition."
In addition, dealers sold 359 Porsche Approved Certified Pre-Owned vehicles. Pre-Owned sales were up 66 percent for the month and 590 percent for the calendar year.

Been there done that, yeah, the "news:" an outdated official company press release.

ok ,now you want to be negative by force ,you are suspecting official numbers ,you think pcna have changed these numbers because they are afraid of nicks and maxernst judgement?? lol do you want these numbers in details?

I know you follow other other Porsche boards. Typical they are frequented by avid Porsche enthusiast. Yet most have been either neutral or decidedly negative on the 997. Many are waiting to see what the 997TT looks like and most are holding on to their cars until the 998 is introduced.

Additional many do not see themselves paying over $100,000 for a car that in the past was in the mid $60,000.

Finally regarding sales, I agree we should wait but based on public reaction and discounting on 997's it does not look good. Carlos, help Porsche out; (the small company which made over a billion euro's) buy a 997 and get reamed in the process

Re: Any word on how well 997 sales are going in the USA?

Well, if Porsche ended up selling 160,000 996's with the twice the initial negativety you are claiming on the 997, that means Porsche would sell 320,000 997's then not bad

"Additional many do not see themselves paying over $100,000 for a car that in the past was in the mid $60,000."

I like how you stick to the facts nick are you talking about back in the 80's

Oh, no! Just think of the resultant excitability and sensory overload this would cause, and the additional passion that Nick would then have to put into his anti-Porsche diatribes warning us of that company's imminent demise.

    Could we take it?

Re: Any word on how well 997 sales are going in the USA?

As for Germany ... i looked uo the numbers of 997 3.8 S registrated until August 2004 ... 374 cars were counted.

Of course that doesn't tell exactly about the number of sold cars !!!

Common we all know what agenda Nick has

Your right I do have an agenda. In the most recent year report Porsche boasted over 1 BILLION euro profit. This is from a small car company. Now how do you suppose they were able to that?

The answer; Porsche is the most expensive sport car on the planet. How can I make that statement? If you factor in resale value ( a point made by another poster) the car relative to other sport cars is more expensive. The car drops like a rock once of the show room floor and for good reason. It is overproduced, overpriced and not special.

Look at the poor CGT. It is their top of the line model and within 6 months an owner will be lucky to get MSRP for it. Porsche will make money but the customer is going to take a huge loss.

We are lining Porsche pockets while our complaints about several service issues Porsche ignores. The 997 is facing a dim future unless Porsche limits production which would be like asking Fritz to utter one complaint against his beloved Porsche. It will not happen.

Porsche = the most expensive sports car? NOT! By your own calculations, you should realize that Lamborghini or Aston Martin hold that privilege if for any reason that they're at least 3 times the price of the average Porsche and thus depreciation figures are that much higher. Here too, they are more exclusive in terms of numbers produced but that doesn't help their owners during resale because the market for such cars is extremely limited and many folks who can afford these cars in the first place prefer to spec to their desire vs. taking what someone else had ordered.

As to the CGT, if the owners are buying them on speculative grounds trying to make a quick buck, they're buying the car for the wrong reasons. As a Ferrari owner, you should know all too well when Ferraris were traded and sold during the early 90's until the market collapsed on them. Doubtful the owners of all those Daytonas have seen their car appreciate over the past 10 years to the same price level as when they bought it.

Re: Any word on how well 997 sales are going in the USA?

Lets realise some facts. Most everyone who has seen it in person likes the look of the 997. That includes me. The build quality inside and out appear very good. Its performance from everything i have read indicates an improvement over the 996.

The only thing it doesn't have going for it, is what porsche can't control. THE ECONOMY. During most of the life of the 996 there were boom years, with many a 996 bought with bonuses and stock options that are just not here anymore. I would predict steady sales with bumps for the new variants. And will the performance bug bite many cayenne owners when leases run out?

    San Diego is in California?

Re: Any word on how well 997 sales are going in the USA?

Disagree... 997 in person was a big disappointment. Current 996 w/aero kit is by far the prettier car. Even without the aero kit the 997 is only a hair better than the current 996.

Don't even talk about performance because the 997 should've blown the current 996 away. Keep in mind they had a very long time to develop this car! Instead they bring out the 997S (which should've been the standard Carrera) so they can charge us an additional 10K. Very nice work... and sadly it still is a bit underneath the performance of a Chevy that is half its price. Keep in mind folks that 911 performance was at least always on a par with Corvettes if not a hair better. That can't be said with this iteration.
