Exactly. A dealer usually doesn’t want customers to “wait” for a car, especially not one that will sell all by itself, like the GT4/Spyder. He preferrably wants them to buy a car NOW and benefit from a trade-in once the new/faster/better car comes out.

Of course this may be different if you have a long and healthy (aka more honest) relationship with your dealer.

My dealer knows I have no interest in a 718 - I have berated it often enough - and even if I did they don’t have any new 718’s to sell! I am on the “expression of interest” register for a GT4 but not optimistic I’ll be offered one.

Isn’t the “expression of interest” following the “first come, first served” rule?

I don’t think it works like that. With limited availability cars such as GT4 it’s more a case of who they think is “worthy”  Smiley

    That's certainly the case here.

Here it is unfortunately usually awarded to whoever is willing to pay the most over the sticker price or who is willing to first buy a fleet of 911 TurboPanamera/Cayenne/Macan, etc...

I was very lucky to buy my GT3 from an honest dealer from whom I had never bought a car and he gave me the #1 spot with no charge over sticker with a $1k deposit (and no extra charge for Euro Delivery - I had to pay $3k for the GT4 delivery).  This is a rare situation these days...

BTW, the dealer is small and he says that my GT3 was the only one he was allocated (he has a long waiting list for which he can provide no cars).

Manual is still on the configurator in US - maybe because not subject to WLTP...

Still on UK configurator too (911T)...

    Re: 718 Spyder

The only remaining 991.2 Carrera builds for the UK are 4 GTS models and its gone from those. PDK is now a no cost option with a higher base price.

The configurator still shows manual on the 718 but my sales guy told me Porsche GB called him today to reject his recently submitted manual 718 orders

At the moment there is still confusion about everything - I seems that they have big troubles with the NA-engines - I even heard today, that the NA-Engine is also dead for the 992 GT3. :-(

    Blueflame

I know I have been sceptical about a 992 turbo-GT3 in another thread, but I just noticed something today: If the 992.1 GT3 comes out presumably 3 years after the 991.2 GT3, meaning in March 2020, then it will either have to comply with the current Euro 6d-TEMP until 1st of Jan 2021, which is a very short lifespan of just 9 months production time or, it will have to comply with the even stricter Euro 6d regulations. In any case, it will be a tough job for Porsche to achieve this and still keep the GT3 quicker than a 992 (turbo-)GTS on track.

At Zuffenhausen, there is real trouble over the last months...everything is unsure and nothing confirmed.

The NA 4.0 Engine (not GT3) was 99% safe for the 718 Spyder and then everything went to chaos...fact is - there are mules with Turbo and NA-engines.

At the moment there is still confusion about everything - I seems that they have big troubles with the NA-engines - I even heard today, that the NA-Engine is also dead for the 992 GT3. :-(

I´m just speaking for the German-market - there is also zero chance for me to order a 2019 991.2 GT3 here, but the ROW gets some more cars.

    [...]

    Blueflame

That sounds bad, as I have had a deposit on a GT4 for a year now, on the expectation that it will have a NA 6 cylinder.

It looks like ROW is benefitting from the situation: my brother just picked up a 2019 GT3 RS from dealer stock, for a reasonable markup... The dealer had two in stock, likely slots that became available because of the emissions situation in Europe.

Typically, the GT3 is offered in the 3rd model year of a new platform (so, roughly 6 months to a year later than your estimate).

    Re: 718 Spyder

I heard today that VW Group plans to use as little differences in tech between the various model families and brands as possible, synergy is the magic word here to keep development, certification and manufacturing cost as low as possible.

If true, this is going to be interesting because I don't really believe they will use another 6-cyl. n/a engine, WLTP certification and all. Unless they use the 4.0 l WLTP certified engine in 2019 for the GT4 as well but I kind of doubt it.

Are you sure? It doesn't look the same as the stickers we normally see. And contrary to the normal headlight camo, this seems to show consistent geometry when viewed from different angles. (Normally, the stickers are a picture of the old lights, and when viewed from different angles, the perspective of those pictures aren't right).

The new shape (if real) reminds me a bit of the Mercedes light clusters.... they want too badly to be different, and therefore look both striking and "troubled"... well, we'll see! I think it can go either way, and hope for the best.

    Re: 718 Spyder

It's the harsh overhead strip lighting in that car park that is making the headlight design look odd as the light is picking out the internal plastic louvres that do not stand out in normal lighting conditions.
