    Get an E63 S AMG as a daily driver. No, it feels heavier than the 911 (not by much though, surprisingly) but the drive feel and stability are amazing and if offers a comfort and sportiness for the whole family no other car can provide, with the exception of the Urus or such SUVs maybe. Also highly usable under various driving conditions, incl. rain and snow. It is insane what you can do with the E63 S since it has been upgraded with an AWD system, completely new car. Smiley 

    The 992 would be nice as well, no doubt about it but it will always be a compromise.

    I was always looking for the "do-it-all" car (sporty, comfortable, big enough for the family, enough trunk space, etc.) but always failed. Why? Because there is no such thing. You need a fast family car but also something special for those weekends. Everything else is a compromise, I had to learn this the hard way.

    I went from a 991.1 GT3 to a 991.2 Targa 4S to a 991.2GT3 to a 991.2GT3RS.

    In the GT cars a felt I was in a proper sport car. In the Targa I was in a cut down Porsche sedan. The difference is dramatic. One excites the sense when starting and the grin on the face never leaves until you turn the car off. The other was "what the fuck have I done". Boring. surprise

    The 992 will be no different.enlightened

     

    Every road legal car is a compromise. I would love to DD a 992 since I need a backseat for my son. No Cayenne or Macan drives as good as a 911, and a Carrera fits the bill for most people in real life traffic. 

    And concerning the boring part: it’s all relative. I fell a sleep in GT cars you mentioned when I drive them at Spa in comparison with my Donkervoort GT. A 992 would be the perfect car to drive home from such a hectic trackday Smiley

    A Donkervoort is a different animal and not be confused with a passenger car.Smiley Not sure if its road legal in the US.Smiley

    At the PEC in LA they take passengers around the track in a Panamera showing how capable it is. A 911 wouldn't be much faster.

    Funny - most of us joined this forum years back while owning and celebrating Porsche. Everything was around Porsche. Look on us now - we all like them, some own one but most of us lost that passion for a strong bit. 

    No doubt - this 992 is a good looking successor. My Mum and Dad, 75 & 76 years old will love it too and be happy about the added comfort!

    Truth is: if you don't need the extra space of a sedan and if you can afford it the 991 or 992 is still the very best daily driver money can buy.

    That is their market. Also, the new generation will (again) be super fast. All in all I cannot see a problem for Porsche. Also, these other producers in their small niches might get eradicated by stricter legal standards. Porsche, however, seems to establish a sustainable position with their engine strategies, hybrid and electrical concepts. They might still offer what they offer today in 10 years time. Will this also be the case with the Italian brands, for example? I am not sureSmiley

    I still remember this guy who drove his Donkervoort for several 100km to a Porsche event in Leipzig. It was really nasty weather Smiley I admired him for his extreme attitude Smiley

    It works but people like me are basically forced to switch. Sad.

    You could be very happy with GT3 or GT3RS Smiley like very very happy Smiley the rest I agree is Smiley

    Yes...with 150 hp more, a nicer look (my wife absolutely hates the GT3 RS...the wing is too much for many women Smiley but surprisingly, every woman loves the Performante Smiley...the female mysteries of life Smiley) and a nicer interior (I can't look at the 911 interior anymore...this was 30% of the reason why I didn't want to get a 911 again).

    I had high hopes for the GT2 RS but it wasn't the car I expected, so I moved on... 

    Again, don't get me wrong...this is me making weird complaints at a very very high level, nothing to take serious. Smiley

    Still waiting for that 960...probably never going to happen.  Oh well...with the next Huracan generation maybe.

    I agree they all hate GT3 RS's but same goes for lambo's in my book.

     

    It's more like every woman loves Lamborghini period. Doesn't matter Aventador or Huracan or Gallardo or Diablo or whatever.

    A certain type of women yes...

    Nah, these women love AMG and Alpina and those big ass wings on cars. Smiley One reason my wife isn't too much into AMG but she likes her cab because it has four full sized seats. Smiley

    The driver in this video comments that the engine has been moved forward in the new 992. I don’t think that’s the case. I think perhaps the engine mounts have been moved forward, but not the engine itself. Anybody know a good answer?

    See he the new autocar. Claims engine mounted 20cm closer to the axle. 20 cm seems like an enormous distance so I wonder if it is 20mm. Do without a bracket previously used

    Just read the official 992 press kit. In the 991, the engine was mounted first to a crossbar, and then the crossbar was bolted to the longitudinal members. In the 992,  there’s no crossbar, and the engine is mounted directly to the longitudinal members 20 cm further toward the front.  The engine itself is not moved forward, just the mounting points on the longitudinals. The result is improved stability and the reduction of chassis vibration on uneven roads while cornering and at high-speed.

    It's fine for rear passengers, it's fine for front passengers, but it's not fine for the driver.

    It's fine for rear passengers, it's fine for front passengers, but it's not fine for the driver. 

    +1 and touching your mobile phone screen while driving is illegal here due to the proven danger it poses even if the phone is fixed on a support on the dash, yet manufacturers are putting the same thing (a touch screen) on the dash  fitted from factory? Go figure...
