    Two Used 997S for Sale

    Visited a local dealer and he had two used 997S's for sale. One was the black beauty for US$104.3K ($5K over list) with about 400 miles on it and another silver one with about 100 miles on it (also $5K over list). The owner of the black beauty decided to wait for cab instead so he turned it back in!

    Be careful, this is how some dishonest Porsche dealorships get around the company policy of not charging over MSRP.

    Actually, I know of two dealerships that are charging more than MSRP. This dealership is asking $10K for all new ones. Another dealer is asking $5K.

    Does anybody trust those dealers? Come on, we're not living in North-Korea!

    Many dealers of various brands in LA and SF are notorious for seeking above MSRP prices on any car that might command that mkt premium. I suspect several of these dealers represent such a high percentage of co.'s US sales that PCNA, MBUSA, etc just look the other way....

    if the dealers can pull it off, props to them, just proves the customer is dumb.

    with a few exceptions (CGT, TT-S, GT2 awhile back, GT3 when it came out) Porsches should not command premiums.

    look how soft the GT2/3 market is now. -eventually they will come back up when the production is stopped, but right now they are even being discounted as opposed to when they came out.

    otherwise, its stupid to buy a new porsche for a premium, much less a used one! sheesh.

    and if the market in cali is REALLY that tight, which i highly doubt,

    (for example the M3 market right now in cali).

    one can always buy from a dealer on the east coast, most will ship over to cali for free.

    Reminds me one of the letters published in Car and Driver magazine that I read few months ago. The story is about a guy walks into the Honda dealership and wants to buy Honda S2000, the dealer informs him that the price is $5K above the MSRP!! The guy asks why? The dealer says - well its reallly great car so we decided that this is/should be the car REALLY price. The guy walks away go to another place and buys the car at the MSRP price. Go figure.
