The Cayenne uses ISOFIX connections for child seats up to a certain age/weight of the children. With children over 18 kg or 3 1/2 years, you usually use the belt only, no Isofix anymore, even if the seats have Isofix connectors.
It is highly recommended to use the child seats on the left and right seat in the rear compartment, not in the center of the rear. Right now we're using a Porsche child seat for our almost 4 years old girl, fixed with the seat belt only. For our 12 months old boy, we're using a Mercedes Isofix seat connected to the Isofix connectors and it works perfectly.

Why is it "highly recommended" to use the outside seats? The car seat manufacturer together with all other literature I've seen recommends the center. From a common sense perspective this is obviously the safest place with regards to side window glass as well as side impacts.

The seat seems to squirm considerably more with just the belt than it does with the tether straps hooked in with the seat belt as well.

Because of the Isofix connectors and the fact that the Cayenne has the arm rest in the middle.
The side windows on my Cayenne Turbo are made of the same laminated safety glass as the windshield, another good reason to go for the heat insulating glass option if you have kids.
It also seems that US manufacturers have different recommendations for child seats than german manufacturers, maybe it has to do with national safety laws or different car safety regulations, I don't know.

In the US, the center seat is highly recommended because of instances of side impact. With a side impact accident, the center seat is the safest for the child.

Between the Cayenne throttle lag issue and the Ford rollover, etc etc risks, what a great set of miserable choices
....an S55 may be a safer people carrier in CA weather conditions....

I'm not sure Ford has ever had trouble with F150 rollovers and think it instead only an experience in Exploders.

Actually, the Exploders (Pinto and Crown Vic) don't have an unusually high rollover rate.
What I do remember is Ford then-CEO Nasser claiming as the Explorer scandal first hit that Explorer is very safe, that his family has 2 Explorers in their garage. Nasser was fired later and filed for divorce shortly thereafter...then I understood why he may have insisted on an Explorer for his wife
