    Will the CD player recognise mp3 cds?

    At the porsche launch in London this week, i asked a porsche UK rep if the player would recognise and play mp3 cds... he seemed convinced that it would, anyone know for sure?

    Also, is the standard sound package any good? am considering going for BOSE, but i have heard the standard set up is more than adequate! I'm not an audiophile, i just like my bass and my music

    and go for the bose, it isnt THAT good, but its WAY better than the standard system.

    You should read our 997 Carrera S review and especially the update. It mentions that the CD player can show CD text but it doesn't play MP3 files. As far as I heard, the optional CD changer doesn't play MP3 files either. I wonder why it doesn't because it wouldn't require anything special but maybe it has to do with legal aspects.

    Never ask Porsche reps about something, especially not MP3. I remember when I was pretty upset that the Cayenne Turbo's CD changer doesn't play MP3 files because I have a MP3 10 GB jukebox installed in our ML55 AMG.
    When I asked a guy from Porsche on one of my visits why the Cayenne CD changer doesn't play MP3 files, he told me that it doesn't play MP3 files because MP3 files are ILLEGAL.
    I even argued with him about this but no chance, he was pretty sure about it. So don't expect too much from them. I also wonder why they don't offer a DVD entertainment system for the Cayenne rear compartment because lots of us Cayenne owners have kids.

    The BOSE system is highly recommended because it actually offers a "standard" sound. Real audiophiles will never be satisfied with the BOSE system but it provides a pretty good sound. I heard the standard system once and it isn't bad but the BOSE is definetely sounding better.

    What CD burning software supports CD-Text? Does iTunes or Windows Media 9 support it?

    I'm using Nero 6 ( http://www.nero.com/us/index.html ) and I'm very happy with it. Caution: there are serial numbers and keygenerators for Nero 6 floating around the internet but the producers of Nero are pretty good in blacklisting such numbers and numbers produced by the keygenerators and even if they seem to work with Nero, they usually cause weird errors or not working CD's/DVD's. I had a friend who laughed about me because I spent 60 Euro to get Nero 6 and he got his serial number on the net but after many problems with the software, he gave it up.

    For all those who need to transform music CDs into MP3 files, there is a commercial program available which turns off all copy protection systems of audio and video systems.
    It would be illegal to name it here and in most countries, the usage of this program is illegal too. But I know that many people have problems with playing their legally purchased CDs in their car players and this program makes it possible to make a copy without copy protection.
    Just search Google and I'm sure you find what you need.
    A little hint: it has something to do with Sylvester Stallones nick name (no, not Rambo) and the isle Antigua.

    Would the BOSE head unit be able to control an aftermarket CD changer, some thing like the ALPINE?

    christian ,your wishes are coming true ,i got an inside info yesterday that starting february you can order to your cayenne the dvd entertainment system for the Cayenne rear compartment , i saw the picture by mistake ,it is neatly fitted in the headrest..i will try to get a picture for you

    Thanks Dimitri. I already knew that Exclusive has something in the planning but unfortunately I heard that the price tag won't be nice at all. I spent 600 Euro for a SONY rear compartment DVD system for the kids and it works just great.
    I cannot imagine spending 4000 Euro for a similar system, even if the TFT screens are nicely embedded in the headrests.

    who makes the CD changer for porsche? is this a Blaupunk or Alpine model?

    maybe one could switch the OEM cd changer for a unit from the same manufacturer, one that reads MP3 cd's?

    RC, do you have any info who makes the cd changers for porsche?

    The problem is the Porsche uses the MOST bus which is a fiber optic bus. Most aftermarket accessories still use copper for the interconnect. Give it some time. MOST is suppose to be a new standard so you should see more accessories available when more car manufacturers start using it and as long as they all adhere to the specification.

    I think Becker make the changers. I know they did the head units in the 996/boxster.

    all i can say is that the bose system in my 997s is the best sound system i have ever heard in a car ,its way better that the same bose system in my 996tt ,it is really perfect
