Mercedes-AMG Boss Says, Despite GT R Pro, The Black Series Is Still Coming
“It’s not the new Black Series, to be honest”, Moers told RoadAndTrack about the new GT R Pro. “It’s a track-enhanced version of the GT R, which was always part of the program.” However, the big announcement came in the form of three letters: “Yep”, as that’s what the AMG boss said when asked if a new Black Series is coming.
Does this make as much sense as a GT3 RS Cabriolet?
Some will say that is what a Speedster is anyway, but with Manual and less aggressive suspension I think the Speedster is significantly different.

Carlos from Spain:The rear wing looks silly, it ruins it.
I said the same when I saw the Performante Spyder for the very first time but when you see it live...much better.

Kobalt:Not sure that this is AMG's best idea.
We need to see the car live but maybe a retractable wing would have been a better idea for this car...maybe.

Ramin:Do the wings have any aero effect at all on a convertible? I've always assumed that the air past the windshield is so disturbed/turbulent that wing will not get any clean air to do its job.
I don't know about the AMG GT R but before I ordered my Huracan Performante, for a split second, I was interested in the Performante Spyder (did two test-drives, loved the car) and I explicitly asked if the ALA system had a similar effect to the Coupe. The answer was: Identical...with the top up. With the top down, slightly different story but only very little difference.

A quick question, I've always lover the AMG GT series of cars, and the ones with the updated interior even more so... The GT-C cab seems like the best option of this range, but if someone could get an allocation for the GT-R Roadster, they should definitely go for it no? Also all these AMG cars have serious depreciation, do we think one would be any different, because of the limited qty's?

Good question and to be honest, I don't have a clue. Depreciation is mega huge with AMG cars, this is why I never buy them (at the current lease rates in Germany, anyone buying an AMG, especially the E/C class, is a fool ) but the AMG GT-R will certainly hold it's value better, even in Roadster flavor. This doesn't mean it won't be hit by a depreciation.

I would be cautious: the (ex-)AMG owners I know were all not happy with the car (mainly: gearbox and brakes). Depreciation is very high, which seems logical if several buyers resell their cars soon after getting it because they dislike it.... Not a sustainable product, if you ask me.
Moser:thanks for the replies and inputs!
If you like the AMG GT R, get one. You have one life only, enjoy it.

Even new you can get great deals. I bought my GTC Edition 50 new with a real good discount. If you keep the car for 5 years (taking in mind your orginal discounted purrchase price) the depreciation is bearable. All these discussion about depreciation are a bit strange, if you want to make mooney go to the stock exchange. There you can have better luck than with cars. If you like a car buy it and be a man pay for your fun. Changing cars every 2-3 years can only be done if you buy very specific cars with lease deals (like Christian). With the big numbers of sports cars on the market (and high prices) higher depreciation is normal. I am a member of an Audi R8 forum. Here you see people picking up 5-8-year-old R8's for really good prices. But then the realize that the car was cheap but the maintenance is still of a 170.000 Euro car!
Right now, you can get cheap R8 V10 Plus everywhere but I would stay away from the 42 (previous generation), only get the 4S (current generation). Maintenance cost isn't that bad, basically half of that of a Huracan Performante. The Huracan Performante is about half of the maintenance cost of an Aventador. So pretty easy to keep in mind.
Since the AMG GT R is an AMG Mercedes, I doubt that maintenance cost is that expensive, my E63 S seems to be quite reasonable but of course it isn't cheap. The mandatory rear axle oil change was 170 EUR "only", the first maintenance should be around 600 or so, incl. oil change. Not bad.
The main problem of such cars is usually not having a warranty anymore, so I highly recommend to anyone to get an extended warranty. Insurance cost can also be high if you're young and/or don't have a clean slate (accidents, etc.).
I know of a guy at my Audi dealership who signed the lease contract for a R8 (usually the lease is the main problem because many people think they have a good credit but they don't), made his initial payment, everything and in the end, he had to stop the deal because he couldn't get an insurance at his age (23). My dealer was pretty pissed, not even Audis own insurance wanted to take the risk.
Same with the Huracan Performante I get soon: Many order/buy the car but have big issues to get an insurance coverage. The problem is that for such cars, most insurance companies have individual tariffs and some of them can be pretty stiff. I've seen ranges from 2600 to over 10000 EUR a year for a Performante. I also know a guy who couldn't get coverage at all because of his accidents history (he is 35 or 36).
