Re: OFFICIAL: The new Porsche 992 – a design icon and high-tech sports car

The newly introduced 305/30/21 tires seems unique in size, I checked the majore tire manufacturers for the available models, only Pirelli does offer summer tires.  I hope it will be available in size from multiple brands especially from Michelin for winter tires.  Michelin outperforms the others in winter tires IMHO.

Oh and great release for Porsche, the 992 is, espcially in Gentian Blue. blush

Urban myth? Smiley There are other good winter tires as well, especially for high performance cars. Pirelli Sottozero or Scorpion come to mind, drove both on a Lambo Huracan Performante and Urus lately and they are amazing in the wet.

Not that the winter tires on my E63 S (Michelin Alpin PA4) are worse, pretty impressive performance for a winter tire. Especially in the wet and/or slippery surfaces. Snow remains to be seen.

The 992 will find it's customers but it is almost too perfect (with the exception of the rear wing deployment look maybe).

One of THE best winter tires are Nokian...............

I remember they used to have sizes for 997.

I have had Pirelli winters on 991, but the Turbo S current runs on Michelin, honestly, both seems to be around the same performance.

By the way guys, besides those 2 buttons on the FIVE center, it appears that you also have a "to choose button" on the steering wheel!!!

They were certainly very good on snow but now, they kind of fell back vs. the competition, especially in the dry and on wet pavement but in snow, they are still among the best. Smiley Had them for my 997.1 Turbo RUF 550, excellent at temps below 5°C or so and on snow, absolutely horrible at higher temps (especially over 11°C).

I love touch displays but not in cars. Smiley The tech isn't there yet, especially if the displays are small(er).

The main issue I have while driving and using a touch screen: Due to the vibrations, it is often difficult to hit the right "button" on the touch display. There needs to be some sort of vibration/shake "compensation" during driving but I haven't seen any car manufacturer coming up with a solution. Smiley The smaller the display, the more difficult it gets and it distracts from driving.

Voice control is the secret here, I think this is the best solution for driving. Maybe even without pressing a button, just saying a "code" word (like "Hello Siri" with Apple).

Oh and another thing: I love buttons in a sportscar, can't help it. Smiley

Re: OFFICIAL: The new Porsche 992 – a design icon and high-tech sports car

The problem with touch screens on vehicles is two find, one is the problem of the movement of the vehicle making it hard to hit the right button, but also that unlike physical buttons and nobs, you have to use your hand-eye coordination to direct the movent of your finger to hit the target, that takes a lot of concentration realstate for your brain, and while you are doing it you have to relinquish your awareness on driving for the duration and adjusting back to driving period since the brain cannot multitask those two tasks, that is why texting while driving is so dangerous. There is a reason race cars don't have touch screens and an F1 wheel is clouded with buttons, or a plain's cockpit. Unfortunately people are day by day getting more clueless about driving and more worried about doing other things while driving.

Well said, Carlos... Smiley This could be "compensated" by technology but nobody came up with a solution (so far). Probably not important enough for car manufacturers to "bother", especially since this wouldn't be something customers would really "experience" first hand. It would just "work" and this is not something people usually want to pay for. Smiley

+1 Fully agree. Great source of distraction . On the Panamera you seriously risk to crash while trying to setup the ventilation airflow. I don`t understand why the automakers don`t exploit more the combination of head up displays and smartly integrated buttons.
