    KresoF1:

According to my P source 992 Carrera S is 5s faster then 991.2 Carrera GTS on the same rubber(Corsas).

992 CS was equipped with SPASM, PDDC, RWS, PCCB and SC.

Interesting Smiley The "same" 5 sec. as mentioned by HC, but another yardstick (when comparing the gain with GTS rather than the S).

Maybe there is a secret message from Porsche in their Porsche Code pic with the 7:18 ? Smiley

    Thank you weak GBP.
I bought a used sailing yacht this summer, same boat is nearly 20% more expensive in NL or D. But there will be a time when the inflation will be much higher in the UK than in the rest of Europe. Buy while they are cheap!

    Re: 992 Thread Closed

    Carlos from Spain:
    • The interior looks more modern which is a good thing as this is a new gen but the problem is that is also looks less sporty. More in line with a small Panamera sedan than a 911, but to be fair it is very hard to judge from pictures so will postpone judgement until I sit in one, also the color and trim options on the pictures does not help it at all, other option combos may give a sportier impression.

    • PDK lever was ugly but useful for very tight corner where you had to shift your hands on the wheel and it was much more efficient and quick to tap the pdk lever to switch gear as you were coming out than to try to find where the paddles were since Porsche attaches them to the wheel not the steering column.  All they had to do is change the design, not put that silly looking lever and so far forward (hope the manual gear lever is not going there). It doesn't even have a design recognizable as a transmission lever, which is a design flaw right there, hence all the jokes about the Brawn shaver.
    • Getting rid of the sport exhaust button and others is another step back, another step into a sedan direction. I use it a lot, and don't want to go into a touch screen while driving to access it. Form follows function, not the other way around.

    • The driver's cupholder is another step into sedan territory and away from sportscar concept, looks hideous in a 911, looks like it is from a SUV, the previous solution were it could be hidden was both functional and aesthetic. Cupholder delete option... check.

    • I like the exterior in general. The more accentuated coke bottle shape is great, especially the wider front arches, I love that.

    • Don't mind the rear light bar, even with the big beveled Porsche script, but that third brake light looks unfinished. It is a nice design but looks like a pice of camo stuck on top, it should have been more intergrated to look more like the other vertical strips on the engine cover. As is right now, it is so bight and reflective in the middle of all that black that with the right lighting it sticks out like a clown's red nose (add that to the... to be fixed in the 992.2)

    • Really like the exhaust tip integration, very sporty, but still don't like the cheap black plastic of the bottom half bumper.

    • The front bumper looks a bit boring but then again its a Carrera, the GTS with the sportsdesign bumper and more so the GT3 will look more interesting.

    • Getting used to the square bonnet design, don't mind it as much as I thought. If they put an air vent between the hood and the front bumper in the GT models it will look better I think. But it is not as bad as I thought because the front bumper is also more square in the front, matching the bonnet's line and they line up well.

    • The one thing that by far is a huge eye sore and just cannot get over no matter what is the rear spoiler when it is deployed.  From some angles it looks like the car suffered a crash and a piece of the back is out of place about to fall of, from other angles it looks like it is a car with its trunk lid accidentally open, from the rear because the spoiler is so wide now you can see all that real-state under the spoiler that is unfinished, and looks like that, unfinished, and because it is so wide, the lateral edges have to follow the curverd contour of the sides of the car and so the spoiler is very curved at the edges with also looks very bad because it doesn't have the shape of a spoiler, it has the sahpe of a body panel that is lifted out.

    • That rear spoiler is not a problem for the GT and Turbo models but a duck spoiler or the like is an absolute must in the Carrera, I would have to go back 20 years to the headlights of the 996.1 to find a similar design fail ion the 911.

They did that already with my Turbo S Exclusive. There is no sport exhaust button on the console even though the car came equipped with it.

It comes on when I turn the dial to Sport. Which means I cannot drive in normal mode with sport exhaust on.

Interesting, I didn't even know there was a sport exhaust available for the Turbo.

That is the thing, I sometimes drive in normal mode but with the sport exhaust on because there is none of that artificial loud exhaust farting on overrun in that case. And I sometimes drive on sport mode without the sport exhaust because my favorite driving mode is sport, but may not want the loudness because I may be driving in the city for example.

It was part of the standard package for the Exclusive, and I think there was such an option for the regular Turbo/Turbo S

Really need to see the car in person but it seems quite right to me. However, Porsche might deliberately build in some design flaws so that they know what to improve for the Mk II.

    No Sport Exhaust for you?

I expected to see an Option for having the front spoiler and the rear bumper painted. It will come later I presume.

IMHO looks better without the PSE, as the 4 pipes distract from the huge boxy black plastic mess at the rear. For the same reason dark colours probably will look much better than bright uni colours in my opinion (all subject to real life impressions of course).

No I don't like the GT2 RS-type exhausts, prefer it this way. And I assume it would be popping and burbling artificially anyway.

Talking about exhaust: the marketing language acrobats did create a new word - « heckteilfeste Doppelendrohre »  No translation into english so far..... language obviously refers to the fact that the seemingly exhaust tips just are holes in the bodywork and not directly connected to the exhaust system.

    Re: 992 Thread Closed

I spec'ed one in Aventurine earlier as well kiss This is the first 911 in a long time where buyers are being offered a wide choice of exterior and interior colours combined with a wide selection of wheel and brake calliper finishes so it is possible to come up with some really different looks for the car. I think I'd favour a modern retro twist and for the first time ever on a 911 would contemplate the wood trim option as it is used sparingly in the cabin on the dash "shelf" with only a small amount on the centre tunnel so it can pull off the look quite well. I'm a bit fed up with carbon and metal trim options so this offers something a bit different.

The exterior is without a doubt gorgeous, proportions are bang on with the wider hips. The interior, in these pics it becomes obvious that the new design really benefits from a two tone interior. In these pics it looks much much better than the all black interior we saw before.

    Re: 992 Thread Closed

Re. the changeable buttons as pointed out by Paulo:  could this be a response to complaints about all the "blank switches" previously on the sloping console?  Eg. the buttons you get in the 992 will depend on spec, but the buttons always do something, so are at least always there.  Evidence for this would be if the console switches that remain, are now consistent without as many blanks.

    Re: 992 Thread Closed

Agree and have priced a Carrera 4S at a not-so reasonable $173,000!  At that price the R8 looks attractive.   As one continues to view photographs of the interior, the smaller, almost enlarged toggle switch, gear shifter makes sense, given the inclination of the center console.  In several photographs the height of that console isn't readily apparent.
