My Touring was weighted at Manthey at 1532.9 kg including 45 litres fuel and 80 kg driver weight. Car is with full leather, a/c, sat nav, LWB and PCCB, maybe the Viper painting adds a bit😉

On the GT3 , if you add a wing it becomes lighter . Ask Porker Smiley

1407kg is actually not bad. Advertised weight was 1413kg...

But again you miss the wing...smiley

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3 (2017)

1339kg is pretty much your wet street weight, depending on how much fuel there is in the tank. If you have the 90L tank, a full tank is about 65kg, regular 64L tank is 46kg.

A McLaren 720S is 1322kg dry weight, you are already within spitting distance of that weight wet.

And here is something McLaren doesn't publicly published. It's only listed in the owner's manual. The 'wet' weight. 1419kg without driver, and basically 1500kg with a 80kg driver. Note McLaren uses a 75kg driver as an example.

    Rollcage add around 25-26kg.

Don't forget that Porker has a Dundon system which shade easily 30kg or near that.

the touring needs some actuators, additional wires and blabla to make the system operating properly...GT3 wing has just carbon hinged and nothing else.

you take the spec as advertised in manual it is DIN 1413kg. you remove 25 to 30kg for the dundon and you are in the Porker spec sheet advertised... don't forget that DIN weight is 90% fuel.

1338 is probably with all fluids if you want to consider all the fluids... windshield cleaner is around 5kg...oil is 7+ etc...then you have the coolant, brake fluid....

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3 (2017)

For me the importance of lighter cars is how much more fun they handle (steering feel, agility, etc) compared to heavier ones rather than performance, but all within noticeable weight differences of course, bellow say 100Kg it wouldn't be that noticeable IMO.

well the turn-in steering feel of a GT3/RS model is hugely different to any other 911. I am driving now a 991TTMk1 and that is the only downturn of this car - but then we knew !

It is the amount of extra weight and also where this extra weight is located. For example unsprung weight and weight on the roof (like hard top convertibles compared to fabric tops) are supposed to be the worst.

Does anyone feel the difference if a passenger is carried of say 75kg? Or is a car faster and better handling with a 67kg driver than with someone of 97kg? I don't think so.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3 (2017)

depends where you shed the load...kiss

if it is above center of gravity, then you will lower it but need substantial saving to notice.

if it is on unsprung weight, changes will be noticed easily as it has immediate impact on performance.

example; lightweight wheels and lightweight braking system will immediately change your steering feel and will greatly improve your performance.

changing the side windows will do nothing...

Top Gear presenter Chris Harris crashes Porsche GT3T

Harris was driving a black Porsche GT3 Touring on the A466 near Tintern in Monmouthshire when he crashed into a pick-up truck doing a three-point turn.

Nobody was injured in the crash, which happened at about 13:30 GMT on Monday, but both vehicles were damaged.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3 (2017)

    a. If you're well into a wet cold fall/winter and drive around in a car like a GT3T with all your safeties turned off then maybe you're asking for it.

    b. OTOH that does seem like a ridiculously narrow road, in a curve, for a truck to be doing a three point turn in.

    Bad combination of factors.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3 (2017)

Last accident I caused myself was at age 19...do the math (I'm 53 now and I'm driving the hell out every car I drive). I'm not perfect but when it comes to driving, I'm a stickler for every little detail. I adapt my driving to everything on the road, weather, other drivers, my physical and mental state, etc. If you'd drive with me or next to me, you'd understand. Smiley

Shit happens, I know, this is why I said Chris Harris will learn from his mistake. Not a big deal but you don't drive through a curve at a speed where you cannot stop when necessary. Especially not in autumn and on semi-slicks (just an assumption though). This is like in the army: Soldiers "play" around with guns until shit happens. I learned that once in a lifetime, a gun shoots by itself. This is how you need to treat it to prevent an accident. Not different with cars. Only risk I cannot control as much as I like to is other people and technical issues caused by material fatigue (it happens more often than people think). One reason I'm not a fan of classic cars.

Yes, strictly speaking, that is the traffic law: Drive at a speed that will allow you to stop well within the distance you can see to be clear Smiley

It could have been a kid on the road, not a truck...

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3 (2017)

Before this discussion rails off again: Yes, this could have happened to me as well. Not now but maybe at Chris Harris' age. I remember driving in France at night on the highway and after a narrow Autobahn curve, I was doing 120 kph (thank god, otherwise it could have ended badly), a long truck was standing there in the dark, blocking both driving lanes. No lights, I was barely able to brake in time and to avoid hitting the truck. I still have second thoughts about this incident because I didn't stop to warn other drivers (I circumvented the truck and drove on because another car was already assisting...). I had two little kids in the car, didn't want to stop in the middle of the night on a dark highway but in retrospect, I kind of regret not stopping, maybe after the truck and a bit further along the road.

Second similar incident was on the German Autobahn, my speed was around 200 kph and after a wide curve, there was suddenly a traffic jam, with the traffic barely moving. I was barely able to stop, this scared the hell out of me.

This is what I call learning...some are lucky (like me) and nothing happens and others aren't that lucky. Thank god Chris Harris is OK and that nobody was hurt.

Whoopsy, why are you so negative with McLaren,, are you a bit pissed off because the cars are beating Porsche in most metrics and maybe you are backing the wrong horse Smiley

Just Google "Mclaren 720S weight"..... the 1419kg figure is used by most people but even that is a lightish version as it presumes the Super lightweight wheels and other light/non electric options, most cars are above that number.

75kg is the number used in the EEC 70/156 weight spec, it is not invented by McLaren for some kind of deception/advantage.

Porsche have a long history of quoting lightest spec cars when the actual cars on the road turn out much heavier....
