    SciFrog:

Educated guess is $40k for the 4 year major service...

Will be less than that. not gonna be even closer to 40k

918 services are actually surprisingly cheap.

1st year is like doubled that of a 911 Turbo. in my case it's like 1700 CAD

2nd year a bit more involved, think the bill was like 4k CAD

3rd year it has more stuff to do, that one was like 9k CAD if I remember correctly.

4th year is an unknown. But the next one will go back to the 1st year oil change only as most of the stuff are changed,

The car is taken apart quite liberally as the foreman wants to inspect everything to do a warranty claim before the it is up. So part of the labour of getting panels on and off will be part of warranty claim.

The panels are actually quite easily taken off, a few bits here and there. And the car is designed to be worked on with them off.

When I was picking up my RS they had a CGT up for I believe 30,000 miles service. I asked the shop supervisor what the service would cost and he said around $25,000. Certainly out of my league. Thank God I didn't pull the trigger when I had a chance to buy one when they were first introduced. I had check book in hand and at the last minute walked away.enlightened

Back then there was no PDK... and no ESP which was the main reason I didn’t buy the car either.

    Re: 918

    Time for another update!!!

I was just informed my car is finally done, after more than 2 months.

The bill, will surprised many of you.

The factory spec for 4th year 918 service is 7k CAD$ for labour.

I was charged another 6k in parts.

That's like 10k US for the 4th year major service.

Now Porsche also paid for a bunch of warranty work and recalls, their part of the bill was over 40k CAD, actually closer to 50k. I guess it's their Christmas present to me.

How much has Porsche lost on the 918 ? How longer will they have to pay even for it ?

    Gnil:

Each and every single 918 were sold with a profit margin, Porsche didn't lose money when they sell them, if that's why you meant.

Warranty for the car is coming up fro all the cars, cars are getting off warranty period from July this year.

My foreman and I were just clever in scheduling stuff, I put off the big recall until the very end just so the disassembly and reassembly labour will be billed to Porsche to for the warranty and recall items. Since the car is opened for doing those, I don't have to pay for opening the car in the first place.

    Re: 918

I am aware that when sold , Porsche made a margin. But with all the recalls , that margin must of been eaten away and probably the car now has cost them more then gained  , no ?

    Re: 918

Parts for the car are expensive, but the major outlay is actually the labour cost involved to work on the car, the car is designed to be disassembled in order to be worked on.

Bare min would be a couple hours to take down the under trays and reinstall. Pieces are so big it's a 2 man job. Same with the engine cover. Add another hour or so for each extra panels.

Mine is one fo the highest mileage ones, so it needed a bit more work, my rough estimate puts Porsche liable for around 140k CAD sunk into warranty and recalls, 2/3 of which is labour cost. That puts it what, around 100k US, from a selling price of a million. 10%, still less than their profit margin.

But on top of the 918, I am still buying other cars from them, and they make money for each purchase also.

    So.

They are still way ahead smiley

Don't forget, a lot of the cars are being parked, wasn't driven much and the owners can't be bothered to go in for recalls and even warranty work. When the 4 years is up, those warranty items will become paid items.

There are also unquantifiable sales from the 918.

The tech on the car is being passed down to their regular production cars--- just to list few: The hybrid system went into the Panamera Hybrid and Cayenne Hybrid, the seats went into every other GT car, the steering wheel also into basically every 991. How much of the sales for their regular range is due to the 918 stuff?

The 918 made hybrids cool. Also forcing Ferrari and McLaren to do hybrid hypercars. It changes people's perspective of hybrids from the time when Prius is the only thing around.

Dollar wise, yes, for me the 918 has the most from the manufacturer. But % wise, nothing  come close to my 1st gen Bangle 745i. I kept that car for 3 years, whole I loved that car, the electronic stuff keep failing and BMW ended up replacing the brain for 9k a pop 5 times. The electronic trunk also keep dying and they must of fixed it like 10 times, BMW easily paid 50% of the cost of the car in warranty work there.

    Re: 918

The question is: How much are going to be repairs after the warranty period ends? This may not be important to people who barely drive the car but for others...like you? 😱

Maybe time to sell the car and get something new? Like a Senna? 😂😛
