    New Boxter is Crap!

With all due respect, I think the new Boxter is crap. Man! I can't believe that Porsche thinks that they can boost sales with these mediocre facelifts.

When the Boxter first came out 8 years ago, it was way ahead of all the competition. It looked fresh and defiantly looked Porsche. Everyone knew right away that this is the baby Porsche.

Now, all the old competition dramatically evolved, .plus there is also a bunch of new entries. You have to keep up with them. Look what MB did with the new SLK! The car looks gorgeous. It's way superior to the old SLK. Mercedes Benz definitely learned from their mistakes but Porsche doesn't want to even listen.

The Boxter is not the same as the Carrera! The Carrera will sell no matter what. Take for example the 996, it managed to sell 120,000 cars with all that nagging from almost everyone. Making it the best selling Carrera model ever. The 997 will still sell like crazy although it has a lot of VW beetle in it. Everyone will get it over it cause at the end the Carrera magic will get to you no matter what!!!

Porsche needs to inject new blood into their design team. They have to separate the Porsche designers from the other VW guys. Also, Carrera people don't work with Cayenne people. That means no 997 like front lights on Cayenne. I know this will be very costly and difficult, but this is the only way that the can survive in this crazy market and reign supreme again!!

    Re: New Boxter is Crap!

Fact is - the new Boxster will drive circles around the new SLK or Z4. Isn't that what a roadster is about? Aside from that, you should see the new Boxster on the road - it looks much more mature, sporty, serious. Give it a chance...

280 HP is a significant step

Ask most 986 guys about their dream car and they ask for a 300HP Boxster.

Re: 280 HP is a significant step

Porsche changes are nothing revolutional anymore, except for idiotic things like a cayenne and a friggin sedan....
And beside that, they are taking a new designer from Saab.

I don't know what Porsche is doing, but it definatly ain't clever.

Re: 280 HP is a significant step

MBUSA is launching their new SLK here in the US with tie-ins to breast cancer research. As our Governator would say : " It's still a girrrrley - mahn car "

Re: 280 HP is a significant step

Without a doubt the SLK is definitely a chic's ride.

Re: 280 HP is a significant step

    Re: New Boxter is Crap!

Yes, the new SLK is very pretty and yes it's way superior to the old SLK??And there's a reason why the SLK is way superior the old SLK and that's because the old SLK wasn't that good.

Porsche needs to diferenciate themselfs from VW???AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH...Most people will confuse a 997 with a Beetle only because they want to.

Tell me something and i'm asking you this respect, not in a offensive way...but did you drive or saw the new Boxster live to say it's no superior to old one or even the new and old SLK.

You see, seing a car in a photo and seing it live makes a huge diference..Just ask a porno actor if you know what i mean.

    Woshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...

    Re: New Boxter is Crap!

It's OK to voice your opinion; but please spell it correctly.... Boxster ! Beside the new one is very nice.
Revised looks, much more Horse Power, same pricing; better
value. It is always evolution, not revolution at Porsche !
    Revvv

    Re: New Boxter is Crap!

Every magazine test I've read between the new SLK and the 986 Boxster has come out with the Boxster comfortably on top. The 987 will only raise the bar even further.

    Re: New Boxter is Crap!

I might be more inclined to take this post seriously if the poster knew the car well enough to get the spelling of the model name right!

With all due respect, how can we appreciate a post like yours if you're not even capable of getting the name right: Boxster, not Boxter.

Your comment is noted but I also have to say that you don't have a clue what you're talking about. VW and Porsche don't have any design team working together and the VW engineers were "banned" during Cayenne development to a town near Weissach, they were not allowed to work inside Weissach development centre. So what actually are you talking about?
Yes, VW and Porsche use common parts on the Cayenne and Touareg but mainly to reduce development and production cost and in the case of Porsche, to raise money for Porsche's future, something some people still didn't understand. Of course this has to do with shareholder value too but look at the first 996 from 1996 and look at the 997 now. From any point of view, a HUGE improvement in design, quality and reliability.
Porsche has new blood in the design team, Harm has retired. Again, if you would know what you're talking about...

And finally, what kind of BS is that 911 frontlight on Cayenne talk? Again a proof that you don't have a clue about Porsche.

And a last word as Editor of Rennteam.com: we accept any kind of criticism about any type of car. All we ask is to watch your language and to use arguments. All you used was false information, rumors and gossip. If you want to discuss with us, inform yourself a little bit better.
If you're just here to stirr up emotions...two clicks and bye-bye. I won't repeat myself.

Most Boxster "guys" I know actually want a 911 but they can't afford it or don't want to spend that much money on a car. No offense taken.

Ooooh, RC! Don't know what you ate for dinner tonight, but I recommend you stay off it!

It was only the guy's 11th. post. Give him a little free rein, and he might learn how to spell Boxster yet.

If you were that stern with nberry ....... One salad with too much paprika, and he would have been history long ago.

I guess the real thinking behind the Boxster from Porsche's point of view is that "Most Boxster guys actually want a 911 but can't afford it yet".

The Boxster is meant to be an "entry level" model leading to the 911. In that case, there would be no motivation to upgrade the Boxster to a level which would allow it to compete directly with the 911.

Simple answer: there are other boards where he call troll around. And regarding Nick: at least he tries hard to find arguments and I always enjoyed watching lawyers finding the right words, even if the case is hopeless and already lost.

Once again for balance and credibility, I believe there is a future for the Boxster coupe. The Boxster conv. has very serious issues one of which is that he does not get any respect from Porschephiles and the younger generation. Boxster sales are down substantially and I doubt the new model will reverse that trend.

    Re: New Boxter is Crap!

RC, I have to say that I'm shocked from your reaction! You didn't have to go as far as
Threatening to kick me out of the forum just for voicing my opinion. I didn't insult anyone.

You know that's in not true. You even admitted that in your997 review

"Only thing to dislike: the gearshift knob. It looks like it came directly from Volkswagen, horrible design, even if the designers apparently wanted to remind us of the famous 993"

"I would have used headlights that are a tiny bit smaller, because from certain angles a similarity with the VW Beetle cannot be denied"

We all know that the cayenne is rumored to get the 997 front lights like. Again, you admitted that in your post.

"According to my source, no real change to the front nose/front light design, maybe some minor front bumper mods.
    Definetely no 911/997-like frontlights."

So what BS you are accusing me off???

Sir, I know a lot about Porsche. I had a 995TT and I loved it. I also loved the 996 the moment it came out. I rented it for about a week and I enjoyed it but I ended up buying a Ferrari F355 Spyder.

I've been a member of this forum for a while. I really enjoy checking it out every morning. What I enjoy the most is the friendly atmosphere between most of the members. I'm definitely not feeling that today!

Yes I did misspell the model name but everyone knows what
Car I'm talking about. Plus you misspell words all the time but I don't pick on you cause we are not in a spelling contest!!

I'm sorry, but I won't accept a mediocre repackaging as a new model even if it came from Porsche. If others can, then good for them!

At the end, I would like to thank fritz for sticking up for me.I really appreciate it

Do you have a picture off that car and your F355
I am sure RC want to place the pictures on the forum.

This seems to be the case in a lot of instances, but on one of the American Boxster boards, what Max says tends to be true (or at least that is what they say). Do you think the Boxster could be dynamically superior to the 911 without electronic aids if Porsche engineers were given leave to "go for it" on the next redesigns?

In the past, 1970 to be exact, Porsche entry level car actually performed better than the 911. It was the 914/6. In fact, in the 1970 Le Mans race, a single 914/6 beat all the 911s entered in the race that year. The 914/6 price tag was close to an entry level 911. Did it help it? Nope, people still wanted the 911 and after 1971, the 914/6 was discontinued.

And dress me and call me Fanny if i can understand how 911 lights on cayenne make the boxster crap.

Sorry, I can't follow your logical thinking. So if I mention that the gearknob on the 997 reminds me of a VW gearknob and that the frontlights should have been a little bit smaller because from certain angles, a similarity to the VW Beetle could be found, this means that I stated that VW and Porsche design development work together? Oh boy.
Again: they DO NOT. (please write it down for further reference!)

Again: I can't follow your logical thinking. I mentioned in that post that the facelifted Cayenne does NOT get 911/997 style frontlights because Autobild published a photoshop job of a Cayenne with 997 front and one of our Users posted this picture on the Cayenne board. Where did I say that the Cayenne gets 911/997 frontlights?

Very simple: you should start reading posts from A to Z and maybe even start to understand them. I know my English isn't that good but apparently other people understood very good what I meant. What you posted was just pure gossip and now you're even having the guts to blame me for it. Wow, what a nerve you have.
