    Re: New Boxter is Crap!

995 TT, hmm was that "model" crap too?

Please dont lecture about nice way of discussion here. It is that way and mainly because nobody starts a thread by offending comments like yours such as this car is crap etc... well nobody does this besides you

We all trying here to exchange our opinions and have a civilized dialog, caliing something crap doesnt really help.

Well, maybe I should have put it this way...this is exactly what I meant when I "overreacted".

    Re: New Boxter is Crap!

I didn't mean to offend anyone!! I apologize to all who got offended from my comments.

I do agree that it's nice to start a comment they way I did. It's just that I was so disappointed with new Boxster. I really expected more from Porsche. I hope I can see it soon in real life, maybe then I'll change my mind.

By the way, I just saw the new Carrera GT at a showroom and it looked out of this world!! I liked how it looked in the pics but it was something else in real life.

I will try to go back at showroom and take some pics so I can get them posted over here.

    Re: New Boxter is Crap!

I have to somewhat agree with you. I think that when Porsche could have given us something fantastic with the new Boxster thay came out with the 987.

Too many things to say, but no time now.

    Re: New Boxter is Crap!

I like the shape of the boxster from the front and from the side... Im not too pleased with the back, too much similarity with the front...
but overall it's a beautiful car.

What makes you think they didn't? Nobody tested it yet.

    VERY well said, brunner.
Look at me, I'm a "believer" and I really support Porsche.
But did I make statements like "the Boxster is the best sports car in the world"? or maybe only "the new Boxster is absolutely great"? Why not? Because I've seen it but I didn't drive it yet. How can I comment on a car without having driven it? Impossible.
I do my best to be fair. I expect the same from our Users and I think 99% do a pretty good job. We make a difference, we don't want to talk like little kids about which car is better. We are adults, we're using arguments, we testdrive these cars, we point out weak points and strong points and we finally come to a personal conclusion.

So we're finally at peace now again, I like that.
And if our "Boxster is crap" poster still thinks the same after actually seeing and driving the Boxster, I won't threaten him with anything. He drove it, he saw it, he doesn't like it but I want him to let us know WHY he doesn't like it. And if he does, he made his point. And I appreciate it very much because it shows somebody cared to deliver information to this community.
I love Porsche but I'm not their employee and I don't pray to the Porsche gods.

    Re: New Boxter is Crap!

The only problem with the boxster are the owners. (not all but most)

Today i came out of a store and saw a boxster in the first space. Normally i wouldn't give one a second look but this one was beautiful. Forest green metallic with saddle interior in perfect condition with custom wheels. So while i was admiring the car its owner arrived. I complimented his car.
I asked him what WHEELS he had. He had to look and then he said bridgestone. A little more conversation like that and the clueless boob drove off. No wonder they never wave. A true entry level porsche would be a used 911 or 928.

Tom, this isn't limited to Boxster owners I know a guy who owns 6 different 911 and he has no clue about technical details. Whenever I meet 911 owners at my dealer or somewhere else, I start talking to them. I'd say that 95% don't have a clue about their cars and...they actually don't care. No problem with me, not all people have the time or the curiousity to gather a lot of information. And for some people the 911 is just a car which they like, they drive and that's it. Same probably with the Boxster.

When I get sick of cars These are the two I will keep

until I'm too old to drive

    My 2003 Boxster S

My 200x 997S (not purchased yet).

my point: _both_ are great cars.

    Re: New Boxter is Crap!

    RC,

And this is in Germany...Here I had once 911 owner asking me what is short shifter...

    Re: New Boxter is Crap!

Well that took a while - Alota words were said and now my eyes hurt from reading the conflict haha

    Someone change the channel

Most Boxster "guys" I know actually want a 911 but they can't afford it or don't want to spend that much money on a car. No offense taken.

No true, when upgrading from my 204hp Boxster I test drove a 996C2 and was impressed, then I drove a 260hp Boxster on the same narrow winding mountain road near my home and i was sold. In my opinion the Boxster is more nimble and more fun to drive in the mountains. Add the better looks , more lockable bagage space, price diff. ... it was an easy decision.

I'm not sure why everyone wanted or expected a dramatically different Boxster with the introduction of the 987. Porsche has a history of subtle, evolutionary changes to their cars. Look at the 911 --- each new generation has had visual ties to the original 901, and has been immediately recognizable as a 911. The 986 is a beautiful design, and the 987 carries that design forward.

    Re: New Boxter is Crap!

I have been working in the design industry for the last 5 years now and something we have to learn at Art College is to accept criticism but only in a constructive manner. Whilst I agree to a certain extent that the new Boxster is not as visually striking and revolutionary looking, we all know the new design is always going to be evolutionary. I feel the front indicator lights incorporated within the front air intake is a bit contrived and I'm not convinced with the new headlights either, however I shall not pass a definitive judgement until I see it in the metal.

What I don't doubt for a minute is that dynamically, the new Boxster will be an improvement over the current model.

I know some people on this board subscribe to the view that if you drive a Boxster, you may not want to spend the extra over a 911 or perhaps cannot afford to make the step up for the 911 but hey some people have got to start somewhere. Whoever makes the step up to any Porsche products whether it is a Boxster, Cayenne or 911 should be commended after all as Porsche produces some of the finest cars money can buy.

When I could finally afford a new car after gaining my first job in 2000, I went out and bought a MK 4 Golf GTi, I then graduated to the following:

    Lotus Elise 111S MK2 - 2002
    BMW M3 - 2003

and next year I'll be a proud owner of a 997 or 996 Turbo
Took me a lot of hardwork in the last 5 years of my life to get to where I am so it makes it all the more sweeter when I finally get there

Good point, I did drive a 996 3.4L, the 3.6 might make the difference!
