Track photos , Paul Ricard october 2018

I just spent two days at Paul Ricard with our local Porsche Club .  8  x  30min sessions each day . Weather was good expect for a wet start on the first day , and we were not too many cars which made it confortable . On the second day, Porsche Cup France came to train on some sessions .

As usual, there was a whole variety of cars  , and not only Porsche .

My RS has now 7'200 km since I got the car early August . Maybe I should drive less Smiley

Anyway, it is here to enjoy and I love it Smiley

Thanks for sharing the photos, Eric. It's nice to know that the GT3's are capable of running slicks on track.

No, I don't for my car . The owner of that GT4 also came without extra tire so he called around . He finally found a set at Porsche Toulon after also asking Porsche Marseille and some independent tire shop .

Some people come with extra rims mounted with new tire .  Others just pre order a set of new tire that are kept at the event for them . And then some guys come with a truck filled with all the necessary stuff , one had probably 4 different set of tire in reserve .

We concluded they need to be very inflated and do not handle anything bellow 2.2 at least .

Then, still , it is not normal they delaminate like this . I remember the photo of your tire . You should of seem the tire of the preceding dey, even worse then this one . The above one was used 30 minutes  . That's it . And is destroyed . NOT NORMAL .  Never had that with the PSS

Let me know what Michelin tells you .

As is the case with Blueflame´s tires, it amazes me that the delimitation only occurs on the outer shoulder of the tire. Hence, tire pressure and to a higher degree a lack of camber at the front axle seems to be the reason. At least that's how it looks to me.

Have these cars had a proper alignment prior to track driving? At least on the Carrera T I assume that the suspension geometry is rather aimed towards versatility than track usage.

That doesn't mean that these specific tires are more prone to delimitation but more camber would definitely spread the load more evenly onto the entire tread surface.

The car was on standard geometry ....... but still . Lots of people drive their cars with standard geometry on the track and they don't get the tire to delaminate .  I drove many many tracks with my 997 Carrera S with non N rated PSS and standard alignment and never , ever, did the tire end up loosing bits of it .

On Michelin ' s defense , the tire were probably under inflated as it was the first session of the day  and the guys sticked to Cup pressure recommendations . But still ...... should ne end up like this .

cup pressure with slicks on road legal tyres Smiley I am missing something here.

I got some delamination as well on my first set of cup 2. I put that on the fact that the car was on stock setup which eats the external as crazy and on hot weather which doesn't help.

I have some alignement done and weather is cooling down, let's see how the wear will be now.

No ... that would be nuts Smiley

    Cup... as in Cup 2  =  2 front , 2.2 back

Even with front camber at - 3 , I still get too much wear on the outside  left when on a track like Paul Ricard .

But I never had delamination with cups , even when I had my set up stock

I like to run on 2.0-2.1 front and 2.2-2.3 rear.

Michelin engineers were saying 2.2 square but don’t go below 2.2.

I will try to play with height as well. Camber, toe and sway bars configured already and still leaving on the table.

I want the nose to be more loaded.

With Michelin I run also 2.0 front , max 2.1 and around 2.2 , max 2.3 at the back .

With the Dunlop I run slightly more .  2.1  max 2.2 front and 2.3, max 2.4 at the back . They work better this way .

My setting has the back higher then the front . This is a must on a 911 .

Camber at the front -3 and at the back -2.7

Sway bars standard but when I had the setting done, they told me I can play with they and try different settings without changing camber nor toe . I have not done it yet .

My noise feel much more planted then the stock setting . On some corners I could also use more .... but then maybe the back would start the loosen too much ....

Do you know how many millimeter between front and rear?

did you lift the rear or lower the front?

@whoopsy, what is your input on this?

No, sorry, don't know anymore .

My setting was done at Manthey Racing . With their knowledge and experience I trust that they did what is best . Many seem to just try some random settings , which is not necessarily bad if you have the time and willingness to go back and try again until you find what is the best for you .
