2020 Ford Crown Victoria Revealed: Ford's Answer To Dodge Charger

The S650 (6th Gen) Mustang will ride on a shorter wheelbase version of the upcoming, unibody Panther II platform that the Crown Vic and Town Car successors will use

Ford is switching back from EcoBoost to the high performance, n.a. 5.0L and 7.0L V8 for the Crown Vic, but the Police Interceptor and the Town Car will continue to use the 3.5L EcoBoost V6.

The Ford Crown Victoria will start at $30,000 for the lone 2.7-liter inline-6 model, up to $100,000 for the GT7 Limited.

The luxury trim levels of the Crown Vic include:
*Premium: $6,750 addition to base trim
    *Thunderstorm: $5,000 addition to Premium
*Grand Marquis: $10,000 addition to Thunderstorm (must skip to Limited for all V8 models)
*Limited: $25,000 addition to Grand Marquis and $30,000 addition to Thunderstorm

The engine and trim options for 2020 include:
    Base, S, SE, and SEL
    2.7-liter I6, gas, 252 hp and 193 lb-ft
    1.0-liter I3, diesel, 156 hp and 327 lb-ft
    Hybrid
    3.7-liter I6, hybrid, 383 hp and 268 lb-ft
    Sport
    2.3-liter I4, gas, 300 hp and 400 lb-ft (turbocharged)
    3.0-liter I6, gas, 393 hp and 516 lb-ft (supercharged and turbocharged)
    ST
    4.0-liter V8, gas, 503 hp and 516 lb-ft (biturbo)
    GT5 (low-volume model)
    5.0-liter V8, gas, 505 hp and 420 lb-ft
    GT7 (low-volume model)
7.0-liter V8, gas, xxx hp and xxx lb-ft

The major differences between the ST and the GT5 are that the ST is a high-volume model and that the GT5 doesn't use a turbocharger. The similarities between these two models are that both produce over 500 horsepower and have V8 engines.

Ford expects that the majority of performance-car enthusiasts will buy the Sport and the ST, rather than the M5-rivaling GT5 and GT7 models which have bigger brakes and better tires.

The GT7 is slated to take on the baddest sedans and top at least 220 miles per hour, or 354 kilometers per hour. That is Lamborghini Aventador and Ferrari 812 territory!

Ford is also planning an even more powerful version than the GT7 for 2021-22.

Ford plans to beat the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat's top speed record with the naturally aspirated luxury muscle car. Compared to the Charger, the Crown Vic has a very sleek aero, producing a drag coefficient rating of 0.29 Cd and a frontal area of 25.0 square feet (whereas the Charger produces 0.304 to 0.335 Cd and 25.8 to 26.2 sq. ft., respectively). The GT7 is the ultimate-performance version of the Ford Crown Victoria, using a smaller, 7.0-liter version of the 7.3-liter Godzilla 7X used in the F-Series Super Duty. It produces more than 590 rear-wheel horsepower and 550 rear-wheel lb-ft of torque. Those numbers are to the WHEELS instead of to the crank!

The GT5 uses the 5.0-liter Coyote found in the Ford Mustang GT and Bullitt, but produces 505 horsepower (versus 460 to 480 for the Mustang) to maintain performance with its porky curb weight. Torque remains at 420 lb-ft.
The ST is similar to the GT5, but uses a twin-turbo, 4.0-liter EcoBoost V8 with 503 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. Those are exactly comparable numbers to the Mercedes-AMG C63 S Sedan.downloade2d666b_ted_2f0_2fRemove_20Objects_2fWipeOut32_12_2018_113216.532000_2.jpg

    That looks very Lexus.

Re: 2020 Ford Crown Victoria Revealed: Ford's Answer To Dodge Charger

As the upcoming Ford Crown Victoria comes closer to reality, speculations include an ST version with a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 (with 503 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque) to rival the Dodge Charger R/T Scat Pack, and a GT7 version with a 7.0-liter naturally-aspirated V8 (with 737 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque) to rival the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat. The middle child of the ST and GT7 versions will be the GT5 with the same 5.0-liter naturally-aspirated V8 used in the Ford Mustang GT (with 560 horsepower, or exactly 100 more than in the Mustang; torque figure will remain at 420 lb-ft).

The Dodge Charger R/T Scat Pack delivers 485 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque out of a 6.4-liter naturally-aspirated V8, while the SRT Hellcat version produces 707 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque out of a 6.2-liter supercharged V8. The Ford Crown Victoria GT7's goal is to beat the Hellcat in horsepower and top speed without any use of forced induction. Top speed of the GT7 is set to be at a minimum of 238 miles per hour (383 kilometers per hour). In comparison, the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat (the current fastest production sedan) still hits 204 miles per hour (329 kilometers per hour).

This means that the Ford Crown Victoria GT7 will need to be 34 mph (54 km/h) faster than its competitor. Due to the 7.0-liter's high-end power-and-torque curve and the version's tall gearing, the GT7 (at 3.8 seconds) will miss out on the Hellcat's 0-60 mph time; the Hellcat hits 60 mph in an average of 3.7 seconds (in two major ways: 3.5 seconds with launch control and 3.9 seconds without that use; and also 3.7 seconds with launch control while shifting a gear before hitting the 60-mph mark). The GT7 will match the Hellcat in a quarter-mile at 11.7 seconds (however, Dodge claims that the Hellcat does it in 11.0 seconds on a fully-prepped dragstrip).

The naturally-aspirated V8 GT5 and GT7 versions will wear a set of 305/40/20 tires, while the Sport and ST models will wear a set of 275/45/19 tires. The GT versions will receive larger brakes and rotors as well.

The Sport version will receive a 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine (with 300 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque) in rear-wheel-drive form, while it will get an all-new 3.0-liter Special Six (inline-six, not V6) engine with 393 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque in all-wheel-drive form.

The Base, S, SE, and SEL trims will strictly get a 2.7-liter inline-6 engine with 252 horsepower and 193 lb-ft of torque.

The 2.7-liter inline-6 version and the rear-wheel-drive version of the Sport with its 2.3-liter turbocharged inline-4 are Ford's answers to the 292-horsepower/260-foot-pound Dodge Charger SXT and 300-horsepower/264-foot-pound Dodge Charger GT with their 3.6-liter V6 engines, respectively. The all-wheel-drive version of the Sport with its 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-6 is Ford's answer to the 370-horsepower/395-foot-pound Dodge Charger R/T with its 5.7-liter V8.

Ford will offer the popular 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 with 335 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque and the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 with 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque for the Police Interceptor model. The Dodge Charger Pursuit also carries the 292-horsepower V6 and the 370-horsepower V8, so it's good news that Ford has plans to make the Police Interceptor Sedan much more powerful than its Dodge Pursuit rival with both engines.

Luxury trims include Premium, Titanium, Grand Marquis, Platinum, and Limited. The Limited trim will be made exclusive to the ST, GT5, and GT7 models; while the Premium, Titanium, and Grand Marquis will be available for the non-V8 versions. Platinum is available for all versions.

The Platinum and Limited versions will make the Crown Victoria more luxurious than any Lincoln sedan on sale today and will include features to rival likes of Audi, BMW, Cadillac, Infiniti, Lexus, and Mercedes-Benz.

Base prices are estimated to start at $30,000 for the Base model, $35,000 for the RWD Sport, $45,000 for the AWD Sport, $50,300 for the ST, $56,000 for the GT5, and $73,700 for the GT7.

Expect a 10% price increase for the Premium models, 15% for the Titanium models, 20% for the Grand Marquis models, 30% for the Platinum models, and 40% for the Limited models.

Drag coefficient for all Crown Victoria models for 2020 is 0.29 Cd. In comparison, the Dodge Charger 3.6L and R/T 5.7L versions have a rating of 0.304 Cd; and the Daytona 5.7L, all 6.4L versions, and the Hellcat have a rating of 0.335 Cd. The frontal area is around 24 square feet for the 2.7-liter version, and 25 square feet for all of the turbo and V8 models of the Crown Victoria. However, the Charger still gets a fatty 25.8 square feet for the SXT, GT, R/T; and 26.2 square feet for the Scat Pack, Daytona, and Hellcat models.

The wheelbase of the Crown Victoria (at 121 inches) is about one inch longer than the Charger and the overall length (at 206 inches) will be about half-a-foot longer than the Charger. Length of a sub-Scat/Daytona Charger is 198.4 inches, and that of a very high-performance Charger is 200.8 inches. Wheelbase is also 120.2 to 120.4 inches for the Charger.

All versions of the Ford Crown Victoria will come standard with the same 10-speed automatic transmission that is used in the Ford F-150 light-duty pickup truck and the Mustang sports car.

Ford was originally going to shut down the sedan lineup in North America, but the Fusion will not be discontinued until at least 2022.
