Buying a new 997 --Then read This Ist!

Make sure you tell dealer not to put on front plate bracket. From what i hear thaey need to drill to holes into front bumper to put front plate on . This ruins whole look of car and once its done is not reversable.. Make sure to tell dealer no front plate bracket. I repeat!!! its worth getting a ticket for no front plate.

I have already received 2 tickets for not having a front lic. plate

but I refuse to take my bumper plugs out, is Eric here

.

I told the officer, the second time that I got the ticket, this car just doesn't look good with front Lic. plate I'm sorry

. He shook his head and smiled and of course continued on writing me the ticket

.

Are you sure? I heard that Porsche uses a new kind of license plate mounting system on the 997, so no need to drill a hole anymore. Maybe your dealer should check with his manuals first.

I friend of mine also got the four hole treatment. When my car arrives, I plan to place a sign saying "NO DRILLING HERE".

I got lazy, lost some screws, and i tried this. I talked to one of the local police officers and they said its cool as long as they see the numbers

Aw c'mon. Do you really want those flashing lights behind you for ANY reason?

I got nothing to hide but when it comes to getting stopped by the side of the road I don't trust cops. Sure he stops me for the plate and he might as well nail me for speeding too. ("you were going 62 in a 55, sir")

Put the plate on and relax. Get a heavy black frame and a clear smoked plastic cover for the plate. This makes the plate less contrasty and the bulky black frame makes it look separate from the car. I.e. you eye continues to see the lines of the car since the plate is made to look more incongruous by the frame.

Pick your poison...

"No front plate" is an equipment violation. Speeding is a moving violation. Moving violations carry "points" whereas equipment violations usually do not. No front plate might get you a ticket for an equipment violation. No front plate might also help you avoid a ticket for a speeding violation. The reason the police push the front plate issue so hard today is that the front plate is highly reflective. Having a front place dramatically increases the range and ease with which they can use laser to get a speed. An easy choice for me.

Excellent points you make, Stephen.

And in CA, the DMV apparently is very backed up w/issuing plates for new cars, so one can legitimately drive around w/just plastic dealer tags for months anxiously waiting for those plates

Much to everyone's surprise; there are no holes what so ever
in the front bumper of all US 997 models.Porsche finally realized that not all States require front license plates.I
mentioned it to an engineer in Weissach, when looking at the front of US Carrera GTs.I later e-mailed to re-inforce
my plea for no front holes in bumpers. Maybe I had something
to do with no holes in GTs and new Carreras ! Here at Champion, in Hurricane ridden Florida, we would never install a hideous front plate bracket ! Sorry " Eric the plug guy" Revvv

I haven't had a front plate on a car in years. When stopped for speeding, I always ask, "Could you give me a ticket for no front plate instead." It works.
