someone was caught yesterday on an austrian highway driving at 280km/h (speed limit 140km/h) in a GT3. he was stopped by a coordinated action of police cars and then stated that at times he was going at 338km/h before they caught him!!!! and then: he had no driver's license....

Smiley Smiley In Austria, I usually keep my throttle foot very calm...too risky. Italy is a different story. Smiley

be careful in italy! if they catch you with over 200km/h they can impound your car, sell in an auction and the funds go to the state!!!!!!

As far as I know, they can only impound your car if you are drunk beyond a certain (high) blood alcohol level.

Not worried so much about Italy...in Austria the police can "guess" your speed...

I am not worried about my car being impounded or my driver's license being confiscated, not possible but this is a different story. Smiley

Please RC, enlighten us! WHY can they not take your license? Why is it untouchable!? Smiley

Can't loose it in any EU country, just in Germany. Smiley I have to pay the fines though.

I already spent two hours at a french police station, half of the police officers were talking in Arabic, the other half in some African language, no kidding.

don't know when this happened, but 2018, no chance. license will go straight to the judge office. overspeed is a crime now. no exception for crime.

I was so p.ssed at the French at that time that I triggered three fixed radar traps on my way home to Germany. Smiley

they just implemented recently the transfer of fines between countries and not to all. do that now, you will receive the invoice at home Smiley

The point of my post is simply, if you can't tell what you're actually referring to, don't refer to it. It doesn't interest anyone who can or can't take your license.

They cannot touch you, unless your own government agrees. Unless you kill someone and/or cause a big ass accident with media attention, nothing happens. Nobody cares. The fine? You have to pay. No exceptions.Smiley

However, things are a little bit more complicated in my case, it also has a bit to do with my wife. Not valid in Switzerland or Sweden Smiley.  Also not in Germany and another country but whole EU. US government accepts it as well for entry but no special treatment there.

My wife had a UN "laissez passer" passport but it expired. Very interesting one.

It was cool many years ago, basically a free pass for any traffic stupidity, now it often raises suspicion. Major benefit is the US: We avoid the big lines at the ports of entry. No help with TSA since they aren't valid for the US (viewed as regular documents).

The show is the word indeed.

trust me, this passport or not (which can only save the holder in very specific cases to overstep law), above 50+, if there is an ''OPJ'', you are good for 72h at the station and transfer of your license to the court and bye bye for the car till the judge decides. at best you will not stay 72h but that would mean direct call from your government to a very high level in administration...which is not going to happen for reckless driving speed. Smiley

we can give a try anytime you want Smiley I know people with the blue uniform. not the ones you met.Smiley
