    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3 (2017)

As I was looking to buy an indoor cover for my GT3 I noticed that Porsche had released a new one for the GT3. Part number is 991 044 000 46

    It looks rather nice :

There's also a new one for the RS, but the GT3 looks better, IMO.

How much do they ask for these? I would need one for the winter but couldn't bring myself to pay Porsche prices for a piece of fabric...

It sits in a public garage, so collects quite some dust if unused, but ok, I'd rather spray some water on it than to spend EUR600 on a cover. :)

I have heard some argue that the car could get less attention (ie the negative kind) if covered.  Of course, a striped cover that says GT3, snugly covering a 911 shape, is not exactly incognito.  Smiley

Dust comes off without even having to rub .... so a 1 Euro spray of water should be enough to get to the same point as the cover .

If in a public garage , I can understand . One maybe wants to '' hide'' a but the car from the attention .

But most are used in  private , properly closed  , garages .  Must be like a '' gift fetish'' thing  Smiley

Even in a public garage, unless the car is going to be sitting unused for extended periods of time, I'd rather have the car collect the dust than it go on all over my hands from the cover when you take the cover off or put it back on, not to mention tbe hassle of having to put it on and remove it each time. Lets not forget some dust on the car will not slow the car down, it will still drive as normal indecision

Depends on the public garage. Covers protect not only from views but also from damage because the car doesn't attract too much attention. I wouldn't use a branded car cover in a public garage though.

My R8 sits in a public garage for over 2 years now and collects dust (no cover but I was thinking about it) but luckily no scratches (so far). I have to admit though that I look at the car very closely each time I pick it up for a drive. I also check the wheel lug nuts to be on the safe side because there have been cases of loosened lug nuts in public garages, especially on high performance cars (crazy people...).

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3 (2017)

If the objective of the cover is to decrease attention on the car then the last thing I would do is to use a Porsche custom-fit cover that publicizes the brand and shape of the car, I would use a cheap oversized standard sedan shaped cover.

There is one Macan in my building garage with a Porsche cover because the owners are often out of the country but its not a problem since its "private" public garage,i.e. only for those who live in the building, but its the only one with a cover, there are Ferrari, Porsche, Aston, etc. and no problem. I'm lucky that I'm one of the few that has his own parking spaces walled off and with their own automatic garage door, so you can't even see whats behind the door parked in my spaces and adds an extra layer of protection in case thieves would try to steal a car from our building's garage.

However, in the house, we appropriated the garage for other uses and now gonna have to build an external garage park for the cars and in the meanwhile I'm having to use a cover to protect the paint from all the bird poop and the hot summer sun and its a pain is the arse! I hate it.

I have an outdoor Porsche cover for my GTS. The car sits in a carport and gets very dirty from sideways blowing rain and dust. The cover is easy to mount and unmount. Well spent CHF 400 IMHO.

be careful in italy! if they catch you with over 200km/h they can impound your car, sell it in an auction and the funds go to the state!!!!!!

As far as I know, they can only impound your car if you are drunk beyond a certain (high) blood alcohol level.

Not worried so much about Italy...in Austria the police can "guess" your speed...

I am not worried about my car being impounded or my driver's license being confiscated, not possible but this is a different story. Smiley I have to pay though if they catch me. Biggest problem since some fines can be harsh (never happened though).

Got once a fine from Austria but I should be happy. Why? I fully accelerated (Jeep GC SRT) and next to me was a Porsche 911 with Swedish license plates I hadn't noticed yet. In front of me, I saw the radar trap (fixed one) and I braked  hard. Unfortunately I was still too fast, 110 or so instead of 100. When I passed the radar trap, that Swedish Porsche 911 passed me at a speed of at least 50-60 km higher. Smiley Not sure if Sweden and Austria have a reciprocal accord regarding speed fines but Germany and Austria unfortunately have. I received a fine of 65 EUR or so as far as  I remember... Of course I paid it because the Austrians can enforce these speed fines in Germany.

In France, 49km/h is the last possible chance before you lose immediately your driving license and the car and few hours at the police station 😁

Can't loose it in any EU country, just in Germany. Smiley I have to pay the fines though.

I already spent two hours at a french police station, half of the police officers were talking in Arabic, the other half in some African language, no kidding. My wife is fluent in French but the police officers were really idiots. Worse experience ever, didn't even offer the kids a glass of water (but they ordered a pizza for a couple of officers... Smiley). Police station next to Disneyland Paris, they tried to steal our Cayenne Turbo Powerkit on the parking lot but surprise, surprise, the alarm didn't stop after 30 seconds but kept on sounding (with an extra horn) because I had the alarm system modified. In the end, they destroyed the door lock but left without the car. Smiley

We once lost a car key between the seats in a parking lot in the US, three(!) police officers came and helped search the key and they found it after half an hour. US police is super family friendly, something French police seems to have to learn.

I asked the police officers if I can leave the car over night at the police station (huge area with a fence) but they said this isn't possible. It was already around 8 pm and couldn't drive the car to Porsche Paris, so I packed our luggage and we left for home, two days earlier than planned. It was too risky to leave the open Cayenne on the hotel parking lot. I was so p.ssed at the French at that time that I triggered three fixed radar traps on my way home to Germany. Smiley
