Do you still think it’s a GT3 derived engine? indecision

Well that is the only remaining N/A six.  They will keep making these for a while. Spreading them out in retuned form into a gt4 or 4000 makes lots of sense.  They may even pick up some who could not get a GT3. Expect the price to be $20k more than the last GT4 and soooooo worth it.

    Re: Cayman GT4

Those who have seen the “outside” of this engine says it’s the same engine as the last GT4. What has been done on the inside is an unknown. Lots of rumours on it being 4.0 but it isn’t the GT3 engine. Heck, even Whoopsy doesn’t know! Or he’s not telling us lol.

    Re: Cayman GT4

My bet is on the 9A1 engine, still 3.8l, bumped up to 400-420hp and with a particulate filter to meet the stricter emission requirements.

I don't think it has been increased to 4.0l because there is no need to. Output is expected around 400hp, not 500hp. I also don't think it will use the GT3 engine. Porsche would need to increase the price too much for the car to make sense.

^ That’s what a guy on PPF has just been reporting after a visit to Weissach where they were presented the new Clubsport.

It’s going to be 3.8L with 420 hp. They shelved the 4.0L idea the very last minute.

And raising the price is not that unusual for Porsche especially as a way to keep performance and value in line. If going my N/A it makes more sense to use the gt motor rather than keep two N/A versions running. More gt motors reduces cost of them and let’s face it paying $20 k more for the gt4 over the last one would still be a bargain with the gt motor. They would not be able to make enough.

    Re: Cayman GT4

Even if they keep the old engine it'll be at least 10 to 15K more expensive.

On another note: I always wondered why Manthey didn't touch the engine with their MR-package...

    Re: Cayman GT4

Maybe because the engine is at its limit. If it is, Porsche will have to come up with a solution for the next 992 if it’s going to stay N/A.

The manual gearbox was already at its torque limit from last GT4.  Might be a reason they didn't use a 4.0 with its additional torque.  GT4 RS could still happen with GT3 engine and PDK-S, as Whoopsy saw a prototype like this (don't know if approved for production)...

I prefer the rear-engine layout.  In addition, any RS will also mandate PDK.  So if you want Manual, the only car with the "GT3" engine would be the GT3...

That was never the essence of a GT3. The GT3 was introduced as a track day car, not as a "driver's car" with a slow manual.

Well the old 3,8L from the last GT4 is race proven. It's been raced, quite successfully for the last 2 years.

it would not be 20k extra if they uses the GT3 motor, try 30k if not 40k more.  That's engine is THAT expensive.

That was never the essence of a GT3. The GT3 was introduced as a track day car, not as a "driver's car" with a slow manual.

I assure you the Manual makes an excellent track car and is anything but slow.  As has been shown many times, there is almost no difference in Laptime between pdk and a well driven Manual.  It is 3 seconds difference around the Nordschleife and much less than 1 second on an average track.

Is the 991.1 GT3 RS with PDK-S slow?  Because the Manual .2 has about the same performance on most tracks...

Too bad they didn't get a little closer to see what the red line on the tach is...exhaust looks like the turbo one.  My rudimentary German wasn't good enough to deduce if they had seen it.

I think it will be the same (engine cut-off 7,800 rpm with redline on tach showing 7,600 rpm)

Car has been confirmed a million times as NA, why is people still talking about turbo? Exhaust location has nothing to do with what the engine is.

The 918 is NA but has exhaust pointing to the sky. 600LT is turbo-ed but the exhaust are also pointing at the sky.

Moving the exhaust from the middle doesn't means the engine have gone from NA to turbo.

Regular 911 that was NA has the exhaust apart too, that didn't stop Porsche from using the same wide spacing on exhaust on the turbo cars.
