    Ordered Carrera S

    Hey guys,
I've been reading posts on this forum for quite awhile now and have decided to finally post something myself. I just want to mention that I have found everyones feedback to be very useful, its really a great site.
This is my first Porshce, previously owned a BMW 330ci and currently own a C32 AMG.
Put down a deposit couple of months ago and after driving the S yesterday put my order in. After driving the S I must say I was quite surprised with the car. I could not believe how well the ride was especially on bumps and potholes while in normal mode(this city is known for its crappy roads). The exhaust sound is phenomenal even at about 185 km/h and you punch it, it still has a nice throaty sound.
Well this is what my order is looking as right now:
    Arctic silver
Sea blue interior (has anyone seen the blue interior i am confused about this, but am so sick of black interior)
    BOSE
    Heated seats
    Chrome tailpipes
    Self dimming mirrors
    Wheel caps
    Crest in headrest

If anyone can help me out on info regarding the blue interior greatly appreciated.

    Thanks guys
    ciao

    Re: Ordered Carrera S

How about a TerraCotta interior with deviating Black carpet and floor mats?

Lighter colors give a more spacious feeling to the interior but they gather dirt and grime so quickly on the light colored flooring.

A darker color for the carpeted lower surfaces and matching darker floor mats make the lighter leather cockpit surfaces contrast nicely to give even more visual interest.

Here's a grey interior with deviating dark blue carpet in a 996 TT Cab for reference:

    Re: Ordered Carrera S

    Hi!

    I suppose you're from Italy?

I would also consider the Navigation module, if you buy the car it would definately be an advantage when selling it!

I'd say a blue interior would be a great alternative!

    Re: Ordered Carrera S

No actually I am from Toronto.

Those are some intereting suggestions W8MM, I cannot believe how much this interior is confusing me. I asked the dealer if they had any cars coming in with the blue interior and they dont. I cannot believe how everyone in north america goes for the black interior its unbelievable, we were looking at the orders I would say 99 percent of the cars are black interior.

    Re: Ordered Carrera S

Mike, interesting idea regarding the interior!

I would just make sure that the light-coloured dashboard doesn't reflect in the windscreen - any experiences?

So, why don't you just order the car with a blue interior? There is no reason to be average!

    Re: Ordered Carrera S

    Welcomed porsche997,

I have seen in person a blue interior 997, looked very good (elegant) but its hard to match with the outside color, in this case it was a silver (the one thats similar to GT silver) and was OK so the artic silver you chose would be OK. Its a good option vs black, but I like exterior colors that don't match the blue interior, like black, ocean blue, etc. so blue interior is not an option in that case, but works well with light greys.

Here is a blurry picture some one posted form a catalogue, but in real life it looks darker more navy-like:

    Re: Ordered Carrera S

Thanks carlos, thats a great help I just feel the blue breaks it down a bit, goes well with the silver(better then the black), and it gives it a different unique touch as opposed to the overdone trend of black.

Yes, ... I suppose that black interiors are "traditional" in some ways for Porsches. Most all Porsche race cars have had black felt, or at least black color, on the upper dash surfaces to keep potential reflections from interfering with the driver's view of the road. However, in race cars, one goes to extra effort to obtain the last 1%.

I have a tendency to order light interiors for cars that will see a lot of duty in high-sunshine environments. When one returns to a sun-soaked, dark-interior car, the interior is vastly more "pre-heated" than a lighter color would be. Hence, my "summer car", the TT Cab, has a grey interior.

My TT coupe, however, has a "racer-black" interior.

Yes, of course, the reflections from the grey dash surfaces can be noticed, but they are not too bad. Actually, I see some reflections from the dash material's sheen on my black-interior coupe, too. The reflections from the grey dash are not wildly worse than from the black dash.

If I were going to track the car extensively, where the price of a small error can be quite high, I would only go with a black dash. But, for an all around car, I see no real visibility disadvantage to the grey interior in my TT Cab.

    Re: Ordered Carrera S

I am quite sensitive to reflections, even old wipers or dirty glasses become a hassle to me - especially if I'm going beyond 200 kph on the Autobahn!

BMW for example uses interior colours in two different light gradients (the darker one for the upper dashboard) to prevent windshield reflections.
I am wondering if there is any possibility of coating to prevent it additionally?

The darker the interior dash color the better, IMO. The center console with all the buttons and video screen is so unattractive you should do everything possible to down play its presence.

    Max,

Is there anything that you do like about the car?

    Likes/loves regarding the 997S:

The classic 911 shape, the "correct" headlights, the 350HP, the advances in suspension, the interior (_without_ the space shuttle/cop car techno panel), the guage cluster, the Porsche race car/driver car heritage, reminds me of my 911T I had when I was younger.

    What I dislike and I'd change/eliminate:
    wheels and optional wheel choices
    video screen/buttons
    19 inch wheels
    no spare, no possible spare
    steering wheel(s)
    "fake" quads.
    "agressive" looking engine vent slats

See? I'm probably a typical potential buyer! Also, I'm interesting and fun to be around.

    Re: Ordered Carrera S

Max, I'm trying to play down your presence on this forum, but unfortunately, I'm finding it hard to do. Getting a bit tired of hearing your whining about this car. If it doesn't suit you or appeal to just 10% of your desire, then for God's sake, go buy something else (or have it made for you) and get off the forum.

I'm moving to another forum simply because you've made this one (for me) a depressing one. And when my S does arrive next month, each time I look at the leather dash, feel the PCM buttons, view the lack of a spare and hear the great sound coming from its exhaust, I'll salute the fact that you hate all of it. Bye.

Sir, In this and many other cases I'm merely responding to the direct questions/concerns of OTHER forum members.

I think my criticisms are not only valid but generate a learning dialog and an exchange of points of view, opinions and ideas which make this forum and others interesting places to visit. This is good for everybody, even the advertisers supportive of Rennteam

I sincerely do not wish to cause anybody any annoyance or discomfort.

    Re: Ordered Carrera S

    MaxErnst,

I have always enjoyed your comments - I don't always agree with what you say, but your comments always help me clarify my own thinking.

Right... I think it is quite a drastic move to leave the forum because of that. Or is it because of Nick also...?

Simply skip every post you don't appreciate...!

    Greetings!

Come on, guys! Your grown-up adults, not 16-year-old chicks! If you have a problem with each other, why don't you leave a note?

Nick is still around, despite his - rather annoying comments to certain users - comments!

As said above, I can handle these comments and I'd say you should do the same!

    Greetings!

Advertisers supportive of Rennteam? I hope you mean our Users who enjoy to be here and sometimes leave an "advertising" note on other forums. If you mean our commercial advertisers...there are NONE. We're a private forum, private money, private time...no commercial links to whatever company. But we have a german press license and we're accredited by some car manufacturers. Nothing more.
And believe it or not, I also have two AMG Mercedes in our garage, so I'm not paid by Porsche.

    Re: Ordered Carrera S

there is something true maxernst ,we feel that you hate this car ,there is nothing you like about it ,eventough i think you said earlier that you still did not saw the car in person..in my opinion you are making too much of nothing , spare tyre (you can buy run flat tyres),and 5 unuseful buttons..
