I agree with that. Some of the women looked like Russian hookers. On 2nd thoughts...... they probably were! They were certainly with a group of guys who looked liked they were major powder dealers I've never seen so many fashion label victims before nor such an interesting array of trophy wives/girlfriends with surgical enhancement.

    .

Target marketing at it's best - Rennteamers excluded of course !
A new world buyer for a new world car .

But that's always been the generalized demographic for ferrari.

2 rennteamers sitting a moneyclips toss apart and they don't know it? We need those rennteam hats.

Nice write up ISUK. The front on that car is nice but the rest doesn't follow thru. It seems as though the ferrari magic, the dinner, F1 drivers, fireworks, and money works its' magic - that is the ferrari mystique. It's how they sold things like mondials. Ferrari is almost as bad as Porsche for competent design these days.

    LB,

I've got a deposit down but have no idea when that will translate to a build slot. I'm not sure about colour either. I was drawn to the grey car with the tan interior and 20" wheels though. I share your opinion that the California is an elegant design particularly in darker colours. I'm glad to see Ferrari returning to this style of GT car after a very long absence from it's line up. It's not as beautiful as the GranTurismo IMO but has a more purposeful look. I really don't see it as an SL boulevard cruiser but I heard overheard some wannabe "macho" types saying they wouldn't cancel their orders but would give the car to their wives instead. Yeah, right

The Granturismo is a beautiful, functional car. Moreover at its price point I prefer it to practically all other gt's on the market. As for the california people seem to mistaken its elegance for feminine. Guess money does not buy you taste after all.

Re: California tomorrow evening in Maranello

GPtester you have my sympathy. That is a pretty busy road even at 1am!

Thank goodness for the lovely Italian Ferrari hostess girls

I almost got trampled in the stampede to rush to the centre walkway when Kimi and Felipe drove the cars in. Money evidently does not buy good manners. And as for the rudeness displayed by some people when pushing, jostling and intimidating to get into the display cars.... I just gave up and wandered off to enjoy the fireworks.

That's exactly the one thing I don't like about Ferrari.

Re: California tomorrow evening in Maranello

Pics please . . . especially with the 20" rims please

    Regards from Germany,
    Conner

Re: California tomorrow evening in Maranello

OK, here are my crappy pics

    The 19" pentagram style wheel

The 20" option (a must have IMHO)

The trunk space of the car - I haven't seen any pics of this before.

    The engine

An finally a shot of the rear with people next to it to give it scale. The back does not look tall or ungainly as you can see.

Please now form an orderly buying queue but rember that LB and I are first in line

Re: California tomorrow evening in Maranello

20" wheels are great!! But 20" sounds a bit to big IMO.
Open trunk looks hideous and so does the back of the car and the pentagram(WTF!) wheels...
    Engine looks almost ORGANIC! Great.

I have very mixed conclusions about this car i must say...

Re: California tomorrow evening in Maranello

Some better interior pics from the LA launch courtesy of Fchat

    Daytona seat option

Re: California tomorrow evening in Maranello

The front end looks pretty good but not any better or more distinguished than the Maserati coupe. The back end looks AWFUL. It looks like a snake (California GT) is swallowing up a mouse (SL 55), with the tail end of the mouse still showing.

When the first impression is not good and you have to keep trying really hard to make yourself like the vehicle, it is not a good thing. I fell in love with F430 Spider the moment I saw it on the Ferrari website and at the dealership. And the more I saw it, the more I loved it.

Re: California tomorrow evening in Maranello

Inside and front is nice. But the trunk is an absolute "no-go", far to much bulky for me.

Re: California tomorrow evening in Maranello

I was there too and I agree with the above comments. Rude people. I was pissed off big time. Also I am so unhappy not being able to meet any of the rennteamers The car is looking much better in real life except the back "stripe" beneath the trunk and that includes the horrible vertical twin exhausts.

The only good part for me was Massa and Schumi.
    Really nice guys.

Re: California tomorrow evening in Maranello

One more thing: metallic colors are a must. Preferable dark ones.

I repeat what I'm always saying when it comes to dark colours looking best at a car: there may be some shortcomings in the design.

Re: California tomorrow evening in Maranello

Ferrari is losing part of its magic but it's gaining more mass appeal with the California. Myths are ok but businesses have to make money too!

I watched the video of the launch and it looked a very rough and ready affair to me and not classy enough for the mythical brand.

Moreover, LDM's speech was very superficial and arrogant without depth and substance expected from this italian patrician and what is more important a captain of industry.
Furthermore, when MS was delivering a speech with LDM besides him, the latter was gesturing and trying to communicate with someone somewhere in the hall, his extended hands even obstructing the speaker. This was very rude IMO and not befitting an italian "aristocrat".

Re: California tomorrow evening in Maranello

Re: California tomorrow evening in Maranello

It's no 430 or probably the successor either. As Arny would say, "It's a girlie man car."

Prefer it to the F430. Very nice car in person. Very elegant. I hope for the F430 successor to compete with the LP640.

Doubt it very much... At best the F430 successor would compete with the LP560 - the LP640 is in another league!

This California model seems like a halfway house between the F430 and F430 replacement, just like the 612 Scag was previously... If the technology in the Cali is good, the F430 replacement could be very good, like the F430 was when first out!

You will be surprised. Not only of the 0-60 mph time, but also of the new price.. it will be in the middle of LP560 and Murcie's successor.

F430's successor will not succeed its former car's pricing.. in case anyone hadn't heard, there's a new entry level Ferrari around.. heheh.
