Re: Track fun with the KTM X-Bow

Awesome photos and impressions PJ. The car does exude a sense of high quality but it looks fragile like a F1 car.

Re: Track fun with the KTM X-Bow

Hey PJ, sounds like you had a lot of fun!

The Xbow is a powerful performer, no doubt, BUT :

A few customers have already taken delivery of their Xbow's and one of them has put his car on scales: 860 kg with a full tank. In a recent "Auto Motor & Sport" review, they mentioned a weight of 840ish kg. Quite a few members of the KTM-Xbow forum are disappointed.

Initially the Xbow was planned to weigh around 700 kg, but it didn't pass today's crash safety regulations, and KTM had to strengthen some of the structures which resulted in adding more weight to the car.

The price has also gone up, from (full optioned) 70k EUR to 100k EUR !! Unless the configurator is buggy, which I doubt...unfortunately.

Choosing every Carbon bit there is when configurating, you can save 25 kg of weight!

    Summary:
KTM promised a car that would weigh 700 kg, cost around 40-60k EUR and produce 220 HP.
Now the car weighs 860 kg (full), produces 240 HP and costs 80-100k EUR...

P.S. My Elise R weighs 860 kg already! and it has a roof and even a heater

Re: Track fun with the KTM X-Bow

Thanks for the report and pics PJ.

One ended up on the 'fence' after Brunnchen.

The funniest about this; is that the passanger which was still seating in the X-bow as the car was still on the "fence" was really looking pale. I guess he was still trying to understand what just happen to him. . What a pitty that there is no pics about it.

Next to the car, the Instrucktor was letting the other car knowing that they were ok. But he didn't really look proud of himself as well.

The reason of it was: (the info i got is not coming from the driver in person) the car lost it and not i lost the car

Anyway they got lucky because it could have been really dramatic if the car would have turn on the fence and there heads or neck would have hit it

Hahaha, sounds like the old excuse: the speed was o.k. but the corner was too tight Rumor had it that the same driver crashed another X-Bow at Baden-Airpark already..
I guess the low center of gravity in the X-Bow helped to prevent a more dramatic accident.
I recall an accident last year, when a car actually was catapulted over the fence, rolling down the steep hill and ending up in the trees

@ Gauss: yes I know (weight, pricing etc.) - obviously the marketing department took their mouth a bit full before they produced the customer cars

But: at the end of the day what counts is how the car performs in real life and whether it is fun to drive. And it seems to deliver in both categories

5 seconds faster than the Exige S (Performance Package) and 1 second slower than the 997 GT3 RS on a 2.9 km track is not that bad

Re pricing: with all the necessary goodies for the track the price is close to 70k Euro (incl. German VAT). You only hit the 100 k Euro if you add all the Carbon stuff - just go on a diet and you arrive at the same weight.

BTW Patrick Simon mentioned that the test cars at the LuK Driving Center had a too conservative set-up (I was under the same impression). With a more track oriented set-up the lap time would have been even better - and the car wasn't equipped with the best rubber for the track..
I guess the track performance should be quite similar to the Lotus Two-Eleven (would love to drive this one also ).

Here is the track test and Patrick Simon's comments:
