    Are all AMG lines 4Matic (4x4) ?

    No, IIRC, except for the ML63 truck.

    Well, to make the long story short we're moving from Houston to Denver and I was thinking about a 4x4 SUV. Although we have 2 Suburbans but I want to get a nice 4x4 that can be trusted in the Snow.

    That's why I was asking about the AMG line.

    What the heck is 4matic? I was under the impression that the ML63 has perma 4wd?

    Mike,

    They may do. I'm not 100% though. That's why I posted it. I called the the MB dealer and asked the sales guy he had no clue what I was asking .

    I don't think the E-class and the ML-class share the same AWD system. It's just a name, which describes an AWD system.

    well... it's the same as Audi's "quattro".
    The S3 doesn't have the same system at the S8 nor the Q7.

    4matic was the original term of Mercedes' automated AWD system back in the 80ies which engaged based on surface condition. Quite a complex and heavy system which was ditched in the previous E-class and ML generation for a permanent AWD system with selective brake application in slippery conditions. As far as I know, the terminology was carried over to the current ones.

    The CL550 is quite fast and gets 4MATIC now in the US (optional in Europe).

    In south africa, The first few New spec ML GL 4x4 MBs Never came with the 4matic badge, But they all now are coming with it, but it can b remved by request..Its just a Merc term for there 4x4 System..
