Maybe just do it every year. Assuming your mileage isn't huge. What's huge? I only manage to put about 5K or 6K on my cars each year so I just change the oil every Fall no matter what. Nice to have fresh oil in the crankcase all winter since it's natural to drive less.
IMO, a filter change isn't necessary EVERY time. You can go 15K with the same filter. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

I do mine with Mobil 1 roughly every ten thousand and consider that a bit too often. Quoting the book,--base it upon what environment you are in. If you are really subjecting the engine to terrible conditions even every 4,000 may not be enough. Since I burn a lot of oil I know that I'm refreshing it every 1000 miles anyway so I don't have to be as concerned about a 10,000 milestone.

Everybody here realizes that synthetic oil is very different stuff compared to what we grew up with back in the 80s, right?
Back then we changed oil frequently because the oil was worn out on a molecular level much quicker. Synthetic oils take muuuuuch longer to break down.
Therefore, unless contamination or huge mileage is a problem, once a year is apparently more than ample with these oils.
Please lemme know if this is misguided.

Absolutely correct MMD.
I've always found it interesting to see people hold onto these old oil changing standards as if lubrication engineering has stood still!
Materials and formulations are far advanced over what we used to have!

I do mine once a year. 5K interval. The oil looks like new when I drain it, so the 411 is "if it looks good, don't change the formula" I want mine nice and clean, if you want to save money, drive a Subaru! Otherwise, run your 911 hard, and give it an occassional transfusion of 0W-40
