997 Backfire

I have a `07 997 C2 and occasionally my car backfires when accelerating from a dead stop. Does anyone else's car exhibit this and if so is this normal? I am debating taking into the dealer.

Don't walk, RUN, to the nearest phone and make a service call. Kidding. Do you notice any performance degradation when this happens? Are you running stock exhaust? Could be a bad injector.

Sounds like an important clue that something's wrong. Get car to service dept and have it checked out when you get a chance. FWIW, I've been around a while and haven't heard of road cars backfiring like you describe.

Am using Valero premium 93 octane, but in the over a year that I've owned the car have tried using Exxon, Shell, and other premium brands. Problem is I've mentioned to dealer in the past when car is in for other minor issues and the response is always the same: unable to duplicate backfire; I'm, not surprised - I can't even duplicate it.

The other thing? A part in the air intake system (or elsewhere) might have a burr or other small imperfection on it which causes it to stick or falter. Might just resolve by itself. Happened to me with my brand new 997S. Car didn't backfire but instead shook nastily after starting. It did it a few times, freaked me out, then it just went away and never happened again. Service tech never saw any codes related to those events.

are you using oem air filter? K&N or BMC filter could cause the issue..

I know this problem,this a engine timing problem nothing serious.Take Your car to the service,they will update Your computer's program.After that the updated system will setup the timing as it should be.That all.Enjoy Your drive.
