    I Finally did it!!!!

After almost a year of lurking the site and dreaming I placed an order for a 2009 997 Turbo. I have an Oct. build date with a delivery around the 1st or 2nd week of Dec. Looks like I'll be having a GREAT Christmas.

Information from this site as well as several test drives has helped the decision process greatly, so thanks to you all. I had to give up something rather special to me to make this happen, but the limited time I have behind the wheel of this awesome car let's me know it will be worth it.

I just recently let go of my of pride and joy 2003 Z06, the car was a multiple best of show winner as well as magazine cover car. It was also intercooled supercharged and wickedly quick.

I have just finished the specs sheet and will be taking it to the dealer this afternoon. I know a lot of you will want to know how I've chosen to option it out, but I've been around here long enough to know that posting something like that is an invitation to the Funny Farm or the Poor Farm.

Rest assured that Pics will be abundant come this Dec. For now all I will say is that it will be BLACK!!!

Just wanted to introduce myself, say thanks again and ask just a few simple questions before I go to the dealership.

    1) How does Alcantara hold up?, what does it look like after a year or so?
    2) Those of you with 20's, how's the ride, there's not a lot of rubber between the road and the rim, and did you purchase the wheel and tire replacement plan that some or all Porsche dealers offer?
    3) Those of you with 19's, what's the widest tire that can fit under a stock car? I know the GT2 has 325's. Can you do 345's or even 355's?
    4) Can I expect any negotiating room from the MSRP? Best I have been able to determine is that 10% is about the max to expect.

    Take care everyone

    Re: I Finally did it!!!!

    Congratulations!

Can't speak to 1, 2 or 3. On 4, I'm typically used to getting above-average discounts, but got none on this one.

But I can tell you this much: Your car will be worth more than every penny you invest in it!

    Congratulations again!

BTW: Black is stunning on the 997 TT, just like mine.

    Re: I Finally did it!!!!

Welcome to the forum. Congrats on the new order.

10% would be an extremely good discount. I would be surprised to hear that you got that much off. Anywhere, from nothing to 3-5% seems to be the norm.

    Re: I Finally did it!!!!

    1) alcantara will hold upjust fine. just try not to spill anything on it

    2) keep it stock

    3) 19's ride just perfect don't need to cange tires i.e. keep it stock

don't get me wrong. but it's not a corvette. keep it as stock as possible and you will have a cool car and it will retain value once up for sale.
tuned and messed up 911 are very hard to shift on the used market.

    4) 10% is more than i could imagine. 3-5% is reasonable if ordered to your spec. showroom cars can go with 10% off at the end of the cycle.

congrats on your new ride. you will love it day in and day out.....

    Re: I Finally did it!!!!

    Excellent

20s are _totally_ for show; don't go there IMO. Spend/invest/save the money for something less insane.

    Re: I Finally did it!!!!

Stay stock with the wheels and tires - mixing different widths may cause problems with the AWD differential.

and, even more critically, with the balance of the ABS setup.

    Re: I Finally did it!!!!

I agree with most of what have been said already.

Leave it stock, you've bought no Chevrolet here, but a Porsche 911, learn to drive it since it handles as no other and if you do it properly, it rewards you as no other car.

    Re: I Finally did it!!!!

Where are you going in Dallas? I have not heard about any 10% deduction unless you buy several cars, and then you can talk. There are 2 dealers in Dallas, but only 1 to buy from. I deferred from my 09 order to 10 to get PDK, but the wait on the new Turbo is quite anxious and fun. Big time. Wait til that bad boy gets here.

Allow me to make this fundamental and profound correction:

    He bought a ____________TURBO____________.

    Re: I Finally did it!!!!

Putting extra wide tyres on this car will upset the handling... it is not a dragster... sigh...

    Re: I Finally did it!!!!

Thanks for all your comments and suggestions guy's, not planning on doing anything crazy mod wise. Just trying to get informed, Porsche is certainly a different animal.

    cc08gt2 Boardwalk or Parkplace?

    Re: I Finally did it!!!!

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your choice of car. I don't know your level of driving experience, but while you're waiting for your delivery I can't recommend strongly enough a session at the Porsche Sport Driving School in Birmingham. I had absolutely no experience with rear engine cars and didn't know what to expect. This school helped a great deal for me to become familiar and comfortable with a Porsche. Since you're starting nearly at the top of the food chain in the rear engine car category, a school is definitely something to consider.

Park Place! Go see Jim Lannom. Tell him that C2 sent you. Kal Farris is New Manager, Patrick Huston is Used Manager, and Mike Marsh is boss. All personal friends and Jim will jump out of his suit to help you. #5 dealer in US and it is noticeable. Enjoy the 997TT. Had 4 of em and there is definitly NO substitute. Break it in on the Tollway.
