well I have got the car back from garage - car is sparkling and shiney all over again
the leak came in via the window seal - there was some sort of airhole or something in the silicone gel. With strong water it worked its way in, dribbled into the dashboard area and then leaked down into the footwell.
I have been assured this is resolved and that they spent 45minutes water testing the car after the fix with 2 mechanics in car.
It has rained and I have used the jetwash and gave it a good soak..... no leaks... I have a feeling it is resolved - the Centre Director was involved and assured me......
I think this will be a very rare issue and maybe someone may have it and not get the driving rain or check the mat after it to notice it.... I was quite lucky I was just giving my car interior a dust that I noticed it.
Its great being back in my car - still feels brand new..... the garage has offered me some goodwill which is good of them...

That is good to know. The dealer should inform PAG so that they review their windshield sealing installation.

Personally, I am not convinced that they were able to locate and eliminate the leak for good. I am sure that they did spend a lot of effort, but the argument regarding the front windshield has one soft point: the windshield is glued-in to provide additional body rigidity. The glue provides for a water thight seal.
My car had a similar leak two weeks ago. I did investigate the occurance and I am close to believe that it occured in a unique combination of two factors: slight incline towards driver's side + torrential downpour. In this rare combination of factors, water reaches some bodywork opening otherwise well protected in "normal" rainfall. My car is a daily driver and I never had a leak before. Same after the occurance. I did dry the car well and have since monitored the situation after every wash and thunderstorm - nothing happens.
Finally, my experience from previous cars tells me two things: window seals imperfections immediately result in increased wind noice that is more of a problem than a leak (my understanding is that this was not the case). Most of the leaks are related to leaves blocking drainage holes (hardly possible on a brand new car).
Concluding, I am prepared to accept the situation without knowing the exact cause, unless the leak reoccurs sooner than after the next two years of daily use. Cars are water resistant not waterproof!
