Boxster S Porsche Design Edition 2

Re: Boxster S Porsche Design Edition 2

Thanks for posting - Porsche are producing more pointless special editions than Ford used to with the Fiesta...

Re: Boxster S Porsche Design Edition 2

The side stripes look a bit odd just finishing abruptly on the trailing edge of each door. Surely someone in Porsche could come up with a more attractive limited edition using the Exclusive options in a more imaginative way?? Poor effort IMHO.

Just clearing out the parts bin.

Re: Boxster S Porsche Design Edition 2

Not as cool as my orange one!

Re: Boxster S Porsche Design Edition 2

The extremely rare edition Boxster S for 2008 will be the non-limited edition cars.

Re: Boxster S Porsche Design Edition 2

    Really sad.

I especially hate the people that buy these and proclaim they own limited edition #XXXX of 2XXX ~ whatever when in actuality they've purchased nothing REALLY different than an ordinary boxster S, of which they've produced tens of thousands.

    What's "ordinary" about a Boxster S?

Re: Boxster S Porsche Design Edition 2

Nothing, I actually owned an 03"S" for 4 years and loved it.

I just hate it when Porsche advertises these special editions they way they do and then people believe the hype, putting us into an endless spiral of pointless special editions without much substance.

This has been a Porsche tradition with limited editions like the Le mans 924s and the Martini 911s of the 70s-80s and the 30 year 911 etc.

These models are good value if you intended to put all the optional extras anyway, because they work out cheaper. Also there is always the psychological appeal of the "Limited Edition" like in a number of other products.

IMO it is neither good nor bad and if Porsche manage to sell some extra cars why not do it?

Because they frequently name these not-so-special-editions after historical models that are much more significant. Agree that it's a good value, but cynical marketing and not fair to their history.

    Looks pretty special to me.
Not fair to their history? Its a part of Porsche history now...
What's the big deal, I reckon a lot of folk will get immense pleasure from driving this special edition.
    Maybe you're the cynic.

Re: Boxster S Porsche Design Edition 2

Let's face it, they are really "value editions". If they came in the color combination I wanted, I would have ordered one as they are a great value as compared to ordering a regular edition with the same options. What is a bit offensive to me is that they are using "RS" and other significant Porsche designations for cars that are merely well optioned. In this instance "Design Edition", they are not using a vaunted designation, and some should take advantage of the savings, because when the FL model is introduced next year, there will not be "value editions" for quite some time.

Agree with Vince, these special value Boxsters are well optioned at a good price. With Boxster sales down in the US, Porsche is using this approach to build interest in the car. Three special editions in a year is a little much

Re: Boxster S Porsche Design Edition 2

they are killer value editions if you like the options.

in canada the base RS 60 would hit you for $99k if you built it but instead they start at $82k - a $17k package of options for zero.

i am biased a bit i guess as i think i just bought the last black version in Canada.

Re: Boxster S Porsche Design Edition 2

    Hi,
Nice looking car the stripes on the sides I dont like.
I have the RS60 ,great engine.I had -05 987S before and thats a big different in the feeling with this 303bhp engine.
Put on Sport Design Package and you have a really nice car in this Edition 2.

Re: Boxster S Porsche Design Edition 2

Porsche fanboys lap up anything they make...

Re: Boxster S Porsche Design Edition 2

lapping up getting the car they wanted cheaper than if they specced it themselves? what fools!

Apart from some of the questionable names, i dont see a problem with it - if you like the car/options/price then buy it, if you dont like it then move on... i really cant understand the hate towards this.

Re: Boxster S Porsche Design Edition 2

White with cocoa is a combination I would never have thought of - but I actually like it. Shame Porsche didn't finish the job with white roll bars, but they've got to leave room for some extras . I could do without the stripes which just cheapen the appearance, IMO. Too "boy-racer." Leave that sort of thing to Ford, GM etc.

Still think that these "limited editions" cheapen the brand though, if only because there has been so many of them of late.

Re: Boxster S Porsche Design Edition 2

Shame it wasn't silver stripes on a silver car, more subtle like the black on black that the Design Edtion Cayman had. Could be hassle to keep the stripes in good order , i expect wax will make a mess of the matt finish and leave deposits on the edges. I assume its also got the higher output engine of the Rs60 ?
