Regular sports seats or adaptive sports seats?

I specced my 09 997 TT as light as possible and selected regular sports seats instead of the adaptive sports seats in order to save some additional weight (I did not want the GT2-seats as the seat belts make it difficult for the kids to get in the back and I already have a GT3 RS för track driving). The regular sports seats and the adaptive ones look exactly the same, but the regular ones can only be moved back and forth and be raised and lowered manually and the backrest can be moved electrically. The adaptive seats of course can move everything electrically and also have the air cushions.

Did I make the wrong decision? (weight saving is 4 kg per seat vs. adaptive, but everybody seems to love the adaptive seats)

Anyone with experince of both seats?

Re: Regular sports seats or adaptive sports seats?

Here ya go. This is from 2006. Not sure if it changed. Probably not.

I have the adaptive..., oops..., I mean the A.S.S. . Get them and be happy. Don;t forget heated seats. Women love them.

Re: Regular sports seats or adaptive sports seats?

imho the adaptives are some of the best seats ever made

Re: Regular sports seats or adaptive sports seats?

    I second that.

Re: Regular sports seats or adaptive sports seats?

I came within a hair of ordering the stock seats, and ended up going with the A.S.S based largely on the opinions of people on this forum.

I have NO regrets about the adaptives...awesome seats.

Re: Regular sports seats or adaptive sports seats?

    A.S.S. all the way

Re: Regular sports seats or adaptive sports seats?

Adaptive seats are incredible. They offer lots of comfort and function options. I really enjoy the lumbar support for longer trips. And the function (forget the name) that allows you to inflate the sides for track support (you don't roll around as much) is fantastic! But, I don't have any other seats for comparison, so take my comments as biased.

Re: Regular sports seats or adaptive sports seats?

    Adaptives for sure.

Re: Regular sports seats or adaptive sports seats?

Just a short additional comment: The standrad seats are something else. I don't like them at all! I ordered the sports seats which look exactly the same as the adaptive sports seats, but dont have the electrical adjustments and not the air cushions.

You saved weight and complexity with the same excellent structure of the seat. Less things (electic motors, pneumatic apparatus, moving parts) to go wrong with the standard sports seat.

I had A.S.S. in my 997 Carrera S; they were very comfortable, and you have full electric adjustment and memory. Also the back side of the seats made good compliment with the outside color which was meteor grey.

On the other hand; sports seats don't have fully electric adjustment and side bolsters are softer because lack of air cushions. Also there is a very ugly looking adjustment arm on the side of the seat which looks out of space in a 911. They are around 6-7 kg lighter than per A.S.S.
So in a Turbo, A.S.S. is a clever choice.

However, if I were you, I would have gone for the GT2 seats.

Re: Regular sports seats or adaptive sports seats?

BTW, the TT is the ultimate road car, so why shouldn't it get the ultimate seats?

Re: Regular sports seats or adaptive sports seats?

dont even think about...revise your order today to include the ASS seats....supportive adjustable....i bet wr wouldnt be able to do twit better in similarily equipped cars with/without the ASS seats

Re: Regular sports seats or adaptive sports seats?

Don't be an ASS, just get the ASS.

Re: Regular sports seats or adaptive sports seats?

I ordered my car with the standard electric seats and cannot be happier. I did sit in and adjust the ASS in several showroom 911's and I did not find that much of a difference with my 5'-6" 168# frame. Now that I've driven the car some 650 miles, I'm convinced that I did the right thing and yes, I might do one or two Solo II's a year an I'm sure that these seats will hold me down just fine. Have you had a chance to sit in and better yet drive any 911 with both seats? If you have any doubts, do it!

Re: Regular sports seats or adaptive sports seats?

I have the ASS and they are great....however I have driven cars with stock seats and they were totally fine.

Re: Regular sports seats or adaptive sports seats?

I have ASS in the TT and Sport Seats in the RS. I like both for what they are. For a TT I would go with the GT2 seats or the ASS.

Re: Regular sports seats or adaptive sports seats?

ASS or GT2 seats would probably be better for resale value in a TT.

Re: Regular sports seats or adaptive sports seats?

I believe TurboRalf is asking about ASS versus Sports Seat, not the Fully Electric Seat that is standard on US Turbo (see MMD's excellent table in the second post).

I have not used the Sports Seat, but have driven in the GT2 with that Carbon Fiber seat. Looking at MDD's table, it seems the Sports Seat lacks 2 important elements: lumbar support and seat recline, plus being manual the movement will be in larger increments.

I think the answer depends on how old you are, how long your daily drives are, & the condition of your back--that lumbar support is critical IMO. Since you already have a GT3 RS for the track, my vote would probably be to switch to ASS, which is by far the "best" car seat I've sat in, not counting weight. 8 kg is not that much; more serious (UNSPRUNG) weight saving perhaps by switching to after- market wheels? At least 6 kg unsprung weight saving there. And I assume your car has PCCB?

Re: Regular sports seats or adaptive sports seats?

GT2 sport seats under my ASS. I like them a lot.

Re: Regular sports seats or adaptive sports seats?

I took out my seats and put in GT3 seats, hard as hell but there pretty cool looking, and when you take a corner they stick you in like glue! As a added bonus its hard to get in the back so only skinny girls can managa and when they do they give me the full ass shot.
