    Eibach lowering springs problem

A year ago I installed Eibach lowering springs for my c2/02 on factory suspension I was surprised but I ignored the fact that my porsche looks like a boat! lowered in the back and higher in the front which made it unstable on high speeds.
    so what is the problem?
is there any shocks that will fit with Eibach springs and solve the problem?

    Re: Eibach lowering springs problem

    996AD,

The soft stock shocks are not going to be able to control the rebound of the stiffer springs you put in, besides premature wear of the shocks, that is going to cause some ill handling effects and I would never recommend it if you like to drive the 996 anywere close to sporty driving. You are best with installing a spring/shock combo that were designed to work with each other. The most popular and recomended for the 996 C2:

    - Porsche's RoW-M030 (not US-M030) Sport suspension option = -20mm front & -10mm rear (+/- 10mm). Comes with stiffer swaybars. Great compromise of stiffness vs handling and still decent grount clearance.

    - Porsche's X74 option = -30mm all around. Comes with stiffer swaybars and some chasis reinforcements. (Similar to a GT3's stance and stiffness)

    - Bilstein's PSS9 = height adjustable and can get very low.

Peope speak well of Gert from Carnewal.com (Belgium, ships world wide) which can explain more about it and also get you the european RoW M030 if you are in the US.

    Carlos,

    Way to go, my man

That was a great answer. It distilled a huge amount of information and discussion on these forums into a few succinct sentences.

    You are to be congratulated!

    Re: Eibach lowering springs problem

I'm quite honoured coming from you Mike, thanks

    Re: Eibach lowering springs problem

    thank you Carlos

    Re: Eibach lowering springs problem

    I just ordered ROW M030 Kit .
I will post some (before and after) pics of my porsche soon when i'm done.

    any advice on instalation setup?

    Re: Eibach lowering springs problem

Post your impresions vs your old set up after the suspesnsions are settled after a few hunderd miles.

In relation with the setup, I would use the factory alignment settings for the RoWM030 and not to mess with it unless you take it to the track and fit R-compound tires or something.

    Re: Eibach lowering springs problem

I'm interested in your thoughts too, been thinking of installing some H&R lowering srings to my stock C2, can't decide to go for the M030 Kit or just the springs. A few Porsche owners have said the H&R go very well with the standard shocks.

    Re: Eibach lowering springs problem

    toplad,

The H&R's are lower and stiffer than stock ones like the Eibach's so you have the same exact problem I afraid. The effect may or may not be noticeable in normal driving for some people but it will be evident in sporty driving. So the options are the same as 966AD IMO.

    Re: Eibach lowering springs problem

Excellent post Carlos. I have for a while been thinking about what to do with my car and come to the conclusion that a M030 suspension will fit me needs - No track and an underground carparc which does not allow me to lower the car to much. In other words more cosmetic. I will give them a call monday and see if they can arrange the fitting

    Re: Eibach lowering springs problem

    Hi,

another reason for your cars' front being higher than your back might be ... that the Eibach springs have more windings than your genuine springs, because they are more progressive. Due to that fact the latex damper (german: Gummihohlfeder) saving the shocks/windings from going on block ... is shut ... so that the springs are under tension ... even if there is no physical impact on the car. As a result you suffer from very limited spring travel ... and you usually would have massive understeering ?!?!

This is a quite common fault, when having the kit installed ... even the Porsche Centers can mess it up ... as i had to experience on my own. The instruction manuals don't tell a word about about the necessity to cut the latex damper (Gummihohlfeder ) by one third ... so that you can move it easily on the damper rod (?). This problem occured on my car at the front axle. My car had the original M030 sport suspension ... and i wasn't happy with it ... replaced the springs by H&R -30mm springs ... and thought it was a major improvement ... attended a Nürburgring perfection training and had a much better car than before ... at least for my driving ... less ABS trouble when braking on wavy surfaces ... better traction ... more safe feeling ! And i was faster ...

    Greetz

PS: Sorry for the bad english

    Re: Eibach lowering springs problem

carlos, i installed the MO30 kit. and im sorry i didn't take before and after photos .. because i was so excited i went right away to fit them.
although, im not very satisfied with them. they are sportier but not what i expected .. the car is very high it looks like those rally porsches.
(No, I didn't order the US version. )
some thing else , I checked the part number on the stabilizers the new and the old original ones , they have the same numbers and they look identical!? same size same weight and when i received the receipt there where no part numbers or anything, it just says Parts: Suspension.
however, the handling improved a lot, but I wished for stiffer ones. .

    Re: Eibach lowering springs problem

thank you Rookie for the info. so do you recomend that i use my Eibach lower springs on the M030 kit?

    Re: Eibach lowering springs problem

    996AD,

While you will notice the handling improvement inmedioately, you need to wait till they settle to achieve the final ride height. They will be higher in the begginning for a few hundred miles. So take a photo now and one later to compare.

Also, there is a +/-10mm variance from each set, so if you happen to get a suspension set that is +10mm higher than average, you won't notice much drop, and if you get one from the other extreme, -10mm than the average RoWM030 the you will get a really low stance like a GT3's. I'am in my second set on RoWM030 and both were within the average specs. After they settle, why don't you post a photo of the wheel/wheel arch and you can compare to mine (I'll post a pic of mine) to see how low it is.

The swaybars are thinker/stiffer than the stock ones, but the US M030 swaybars are the same as the RoWM030 one (the shocks and springs aren't)

You can use the Eibach springs with the RoWM030 shocks because these shocks are stiffer than stock and can handle and match better the stiffer Eibach springs, but you will affect handling somewhat though because they weren't designed to exactly match each other and achieve a balanced and specific handling objective, though it won't be nearly as bad an using the stock shocks. So some people use the M030 shocks in order to be able to lower the car with stiffer aftermarket lowering springs. However if your objective was lowering the car significantly you had the two the options instead of the RoWM030 as I explained above, like the PSS9's which are height adjustable to your liking.

Here is a great article on the specific effects of the US M030 and RowM030 and what they were designed for:

    Re: Eibach lowering springs problem

Thanks Carlos, I think my car got lower little bit after driving for couple hundreds km. I like the stiffness it is way better than original, but I still don't get it, both stabilizers the original and the ones that came with the MO30 has the same part number?

    Re: Eibach lowering springs problem

It is strange since they are different (stock stabs vs M030), so I don't see how they can have the same part number?

If you'd be so kind, gives us a detailed impression of the difference from stock to ROW030 when drivering, whats's the frontend like at speed, understeer, compliance on bumpy roads? Anyting you can think of would be great. It's hard to get an sort of impression sat at my PC

    Regards

    Re: Eibach lowering springs problem

Im sorry my car still under testing, after I installed the M030 and did the alignment we tried to fix the understeer problem which I had for a while before installing the M030. Then after the second alignment I thought it got better, but I still have a problem with the understeer. I can't find out why, even though the front tires are new, I tried to reduce the pressure and I think it helped little bit
I don't want to hate my car for this.. I still love it... it's just like having a beautiful wife with crooked leg!!
The new suspenstions are amazing!, not very harsh, slightly stiffer than stock, more stable on bumpy curves. The height is okay for a daily driver and it can pass any speed bump easily.
But I would love to have stiffer ones. I remember my VW Corrado after installing Koni adjustable suspensions it handled better in cornering.
In my opinion, I would better go with X74 instead of the M030, they are lower and look a lot better, I read some reviews from customers they say many positive things about them.
