I am fond of Lotus too don't get me wrong. But I find that the Evora should have more identity. I didn't say it is ugly or anything like that.
Let's hope that Lotus manages to come up with the right mix of performance, reliability and build quality with this car.
Also, I don't like that Lotus, the archetypical British sports car has to be owned by a Malaysian car company. Couldn't someone nearer to "home" make it work?

Rumored price of the Evora is Pounds45.000 inc taxes in the UK.
Starting price in the UK of a 911 : Pounds63.000
Cayman S with similar performance and no rear seats : Pounds44.250
What's wrong with the engine ? I do not like Toyota but I know there engine's are among the best you can get. Developed by Yamaha I learned recently.

Basic price 45k GBP (I guess that's before VAT) - sounds more like the CaymanS price range 
Actually power/weight is also quite close to the CaymanS.
Re powerplants: "Other future developments will include a race car, so expect a GT challenger sometime soon, plus further more extreme derivatives and a convertible".

Pounds45k inc VAT I think... Also power to weight is apparently slightly below the current Cayman S.
There will be a more powerfull version in 2010, probably turbo or supercharged version of the Toyota engine.
As its a Lotus I expect it to drive well.. its well priced so its justa case of build quality and reliability... If this is good they could have a winner

993S, nothing wrong with a Toyota engine, but this is an identical engine to what you can find in a Camry. Not exactly sports car like. Also, go to the website and listen to the "roar" of the engine. Hardly inspiring. VW R32 and BMW 135i both use 6 cylinder engines, and they both sound infinitely better.

I listened to the "roar" this morning and to my ears it is ok.
In the end it depends on how we look at it.
You say :

I say :
"It is a highly tunable Yamaha developed powerplant with a strong torque curve and likes to rev and btw it is also used in one of the best selling cars so it is extremely reliable, no need to think about RMS"

Not many people will buy the Lotus even if it is good. I don't know what their business plan is but they should count on hundreds not thousands per year and mainly in the UK.
It is difficult to make a comeback in any field especially the automotive, that the rivals offer excellent products now in all aspects. Look how difficult it is for companies with heritage like Alfa Romeo and Lancia to break through in spite of the support from the FIAT Group.
My only proviso is that Lotus could come back if it was taken by the VW Group some years ago. Look at the excellent job they've done with Lamborghini.
