I feel that this is the least changed design (for a new generation) ever.  Is there anything different besides front and rear bumper caps, tail-lights, and creased front trunk lid?  Seems more like a 991.3 than a 992.

    Indeed. 991.3 indecision

Given how large that car looks, that should be 991.3+.

Is it really bigger?  I thought same as 991, but even the base cars will be as wide as GTS in the hips...

in any way it is an error in my opinion to make them to similar in design, nice maybe for the ones that have the minivans....not as fun for those that have the 911??? ahhaha I dont know....

So that at the very first glance a layman knows that it’s a Porsche (Mercedes, BMW or whatever). You don’t have to be a car nut who can distinguish every model throughout decades.

    Re: 992 Thread Closed

Exactly .  I think it started when they wanted to give the smaller cars a more prestigious look by making them look like mini upper class models . Probably that helped to sell more to the people who can not afford the more expensive models . And slowly all car became to look the same, just in different sizes .

Manufactures do not want to upset their clients surprise

With Porsche , it is a bit the opposite . The 911 needs to look like a Panamera or a Macan , so these later models look like '' a real Porsche ''

Very bad to me . It ends up killing the look

it still looks like a 911...surely inflated one from different angles but still this unique shape.

How can you make a modern car, that is aimed to suit most people, significantly smaller? With all the regulations, the wanted comfort, the usability, the performance etc. It’s not possible. I’m sure Porsche would, if they could.

We can each pick a different pinnacle for our favorite minivan company:

    the 2.4 S,  2.7 RS, the 993 GT2, the 2002 GT2, 2007 RS, 991.2 GT3/RS....

but the fat Panemera Minivan look is definitely not it.....  We all have been happy suckers for the next new model...  but when you bring this "cohesive". corporate look to the "sports car", you lose me for good...

I don't think 992 will be significantly bigger, than 991. Wider? Yes Lower? Maybe. A bit longer..3-4cm, so what? Ferrari latest models, Lamborghini and Aston isn't "small" cars either...

True, that the rear shares design with new Panamera. If the new Panamera was launched after 992, everyone would say "Wow!! It looks like 911!!". Simply a matter of timing.

It is not only the Panamera, add to the list the new Cayenne and the new Macan. I don`t dislike the new rear but unique to the 911 it is not.

Don’t forget it started with the 718 twins.

It’s the ‘family look’ they want to achieve. Instant recognition from Macan to 911.

Understandable from a marketing point of view but just boring otherwise..

Understand but some of the design elements work better on some models versus others.  The 718 twins' light bar looks highly contrived, just like on the Cayenne.  Meanwhile, that same element looks stellar on the Panamera.

    Re: 992 Thread Closed

I like the wider stance--necessary for increased power and performance.  A racing presence.  Like the rear lights as well--accentuates the lower wider stance.  It's the front lights that look dated and boring to me.  Frog-like.

    And comparing a Panamera to a minivan--geez...

    Re: 992 Thread Closed

The 992 looks amazing from the rear (in my opinion, I like it a lot) but not so great from the front. I am hoping for a design "correction" with the facelift, Porsche wasn't courageous enough to go full (smaller front lights) frontal yet.

Exactly my thoughts. I wrote the same earlier. In addition, I don't find nothing surreal in design sharing within brand. All car brands do it this way.

The larger width is only good for visual stance, laptimes (important marketing claims these days...) and o.k. for Autobahn driving - it's not good for crawling through congested cities, parking and.....for having fun on alpine passroads (the latter being most important for me, because I am a kind of old school romantic believing that a - non-track - sportscar belongs exactly there). Hence I am happy with my decision to go for the slim hip Carrera T (which I already whish to be somewhat smaller sometimes).

@ Joel: I don't think that there are new regulatory requirements forcing Porsche to make the 992 bigger than the 991 Smiley Anyway: the new one will sell like hot cakes - as ever Smiley

bigger size is not an issue if you maintain the weight...otherwise it is just pointless upgrade and done with cheap development.

bigger wheels and wider tyres will already bring additional weight for very limited performance improvement...this is just about look. enlightened

see how the new GT3RS can't be slimmer than the lower GT3...it is a shame.angry

I agree. I like the back, but not crazy about the front. The big rectangular opening in the spoiler, which debuted with the Cayenne, does not work with the more organic shapes of the 911 and other Porsches generally.

in my opinion  992 takes inspiration from 993 more than from 964 . In fact it will be presented with a special classic based on a remake of 993 turbo48B8C2A3-DC21-4A6C-A86B-76063612D593.png

Note the lovely louvres on the front mimicking the minivan shown behind.  That and the rear end panemera tail will become the corporate Porsche look..  like the giant mouth on Audis.....  No longer will the 911 be its own gig...  can't wait for a C and A class 911.
