    Re: Silverstone PDE

    Easy, thanks for the report.
I am now very inpatient to try it out for myself to make my own judgment
In the last magazine I read ( french Flat6) , they thought PDK in normal mode was just a better tiptronic but that in in Sports Chrono Plus mode it was a totally different beast..... they described it as addictive !!! ..and just loved it.

But the problem with Flat6 is that they love pretty much everything Porsche comes up with.

    Re: Silverstone PDE

I received a PM from Nilesh who asked some questions about the PDE. Here is part of my reply which others here may find useful:

"Unfortunately, my wife wasn't permitted to drive. It's just for the invitee only. The drive is only for 1 hour - not several hours - so it's not too long to wait. While I was driving, my wife took pics of me driving. She was also able to eat/drink in the restaurant. They have newspapers and magazines there too.

In the centre, there's a small cinema, auditorium, gym and cars on display. If your girlfriend likes cars, she'll be okay. But if she has no interest in cars, she may get bored.

My driving session started at 3.45pm and lasted till 4.45pm. You are supposed to arrive before 3pm and we left at around 6.30pm. We stayed to watch the various videos, eat some food etc. We wanted to leave later to avoid any rush hour traffic heading back to London."

    Cheers,
    Easy

    Re: Silverstone PDE

I went along this evening and was impressed, some quick thoughts as its late:

PDK is great (I am bias as I have ordered it but) I did not find the interface confusing at all, and the speed of the gear change is stunning - it s very involving around the track but in a different way to an old fashioned manual. Changing down from say 5 to 2 for a corner is great; quick, easy and a nice sound to go with it.

The manual car is also great, I just used second and third but very smooth - pedal placement is excellent and you can easily blip the throttle on the downchange.

The car looks very nice, although only the few (probably those who spend time on these forums) will really know the difference. I say one car in the centre with the -20mm SPASM and that looked great.

The facility was OK - I enjoyed the 1km circuit and the limestone S bends - there is also a kick plate which mimics sudden oversteer very well. We spent a lot of time on the ice hill; where with no PSM I just kept spinning all over the place.

Saw a Ruby Red C2S - I have defiantly ordered the right colour.

Didn't get a chance to try launch control - will have to wait to get the car!!

I found the hospitality bit a little sterile and corporate for my liking, (I felt like I was at a work meeting a little) but I was well looked after and had some nice food and drink.

Just wish I could have driven more!!!

Thanks for your post. Thanks also because at last, somebody's impressions coincide with mine, so I am not alone

Yes I included it in my order for 11/08 production, together with Sport Chrono PLus.

It looks a bit gloomy out there, I just hope it doesn't rain

    Re: Silverstone PDE

    I was there yesterday.

The facility is a little naff compared to Milbrook, couple of laps around a very short tight track, kick plate control 3 times, try to loose control down a watered slope a couple of times and 2 laps around a very small low friction circuit with 4 bends.

The big change and I expect the change most people want to try is the PDK but they don't seem to want you to try it out.

I liked the buttons and found no problem with push forward for up and pull back for down, those screaming it's the wrong way round must have learning difficulties.

All in all a waste of an afternoon as I still have no idea how good or bad PDK is.

they better allow me to nail the PDK very well or else I'll demand my petrol cost back

My friend who was visiting London, told me that he had a very good test drive with a C2S cabrio PDK at an OPC.

IMO you might be better off booking a test drive with a dealership because during Events with a number of people you often miss out on something.
