I get it, I have a dozen track days on the first version of the R8, appreciate the Quatro. But when comparing to other rear wheel drive performance sports cars; the GTR AMG, GT2 RS, GT3 and RS, 488, 720s, 675, the new Vantage, Portifino, Pista, ZR1... then the question begs how could this RWS be any less effective? Seriously, with that in mind, what do you think. I have my reason why I can't consider the Quattro, doesn't relate to performance. thanks

Mostly for track usage, I would always go with the Porsche 991.2 GT3 or GT3 RS.

I see two issues with the RWS: Usually no ceramic brake (not even sure it can be optioned) and the standard brake isn't really a highlight and the lack of Cup tires for the car. Not even sure if Audi tested the RWS on Cup tires because they don't seem to be optional like on the Quattro model. Not sure though, maybe they are.

I think that skilled amateur drivers like me profit more from the AWD than from the RWS model (also considering the fact that the chassis hasn't been changed much and the R8 V10 Plus is still lighter than the RWS, something many RWS owners seem to overlook).

Bottom line is: The RWS is a fine car, especially from a collector's point of view but it is what it is, a marketing ploy to improve R8 sales. If Audi would have been serious about track performance, they would have done more things with the chassis and they would offer the optional (for the R8 AWD models) Cup 2 tire for the RWS (maybe they do, I don't have a clue).

Concur. The R8 doesn't share the same price structure as Lamborghini and really needs a more entry level model, possibly one with a V6 instead of the V10.

I think he means that Audi needs a performance model above the current R8 V10 Plus but I'm not so sure this is the best idea right now. An entry level model is probably the better choice (for Audi), even if they said they abandoned it. Rumors indicate something else though (V6 with 500 hp in the making).

The R8 GT (aka Huracan Performante) has been rumored for a while but so far, nothing.

Lamborghini will put a particulate filter equipped, Euro 6d temp certified, Huracan Performante on the market this autumn, so maybe there is going to be a similar Audi model by then.

Does anyone know who are the suppliers of the Audi/VW dual clutch transmissions?

We had a serious and expensive damage on a Q5 (wet clutch S-tronic) and VW Polo (dry clutch DSG) both at around 75.000 km.

Another Q5 in our family had the gearbox replaced within the warranty period.

I am scared that the PDK in my Porsche is soon due for failure too, which as expected is much more stressed and heavily used. cheeky

Does Porsche use a different supplier than the manufacturer of the rubbish VW/Audi boxes?

"Audi to reveal electric PB18 e-tron supercar concept"

Audi will reveal an electric-powered supercar concept called the PB18 e-tron on 23 August, during the Pebble Beach Automotive Week in Monterey, California.

The firm has revealed a single darkened image of the concept, which Audi calls a “design study for a puristic sports car of the future”. The two-seater was developed at Audi’s newly established Design Loft in Malibu, California.

While Audi is remaining tight-lipped about the technical details of the PB18 e-tron, it has hinted that it will take design cues from the Le Mans-winning Audi R18 e-tron race car and include technical solutions being developed for an electric-powered successor to the second-generation R8.

Among the design elements that can be made out in the image of the low and wide PB18 e-tron are signature LED headlights and small cameras mounted atop the cockpit that are said to provide real-time video for rear-view purposes. They are similar in design to features set to be options on Audi’s first series-production electric car, the E-tron, which will be unveiled on 17 September in San Francisco, California.

Probably more of a 918 successor (I bet there will be a Porsche version as well at some point) at a very high price tag. It could provide some design hints for a possible next gen R8 though...

Need that patrol in Chicago when the Harley riders are blipping the throttles at 0400 when stopped by a traffic signal. What is even worse, many of those immature brats have stereos with volume settings even louder than their straight pipe exhaust systems. Unfortunately, it is this type of behavior that eventually leads to the noise patrols such as the one in the video.

So my Cup 2 tires are gone, I need to put on new ones. Since I do not drive on the track that much would like to put on "normal" tires. I am doubting between the Michelin Pilot sport 4S or the Pirelli P-Zero with AO. As far as I know the Michelin's are not available with the AO mark (Audi Original). What is the expierence here on the forum?
