    997.2 Carrera S first test in German AMS

    ...tomorrow's issue!

    I will post test results tomorrow since AMS will be on newsstand here earliest tomorrow around 12.00h...

    I will open new thread tomorrow about LP560-4... NO 0-300km/h time... Results? Huh... You will see...

    997.2 Carrera S is PDK. Pretty fast but...

    Yeah, AMS never measures 0-300km/h time in regular einzeltest.

    I reckon the 0-100 and especially 0-200 could be pretty good. Anything above 11,5s to 200km/h would be a disappointment. Under 11,0s would be nice. However AMS Lamborghini tests usually rather suck.

    I hope to catch the issue tonight either at Frankfurt or Hamburg airport...if so I keep you posted with Carrera S and 560-4 results.

    BTW...I guess it wull be a PDK.

    Thanks to kashmir we have the data:

    0 - 100 = 4.6 sec
    0 - 200 = 15.8 sec

    Top Speed = 300 km/h

    What to say? Test is btw pretty positive but, this example is slow...

    It's actually as fast between 100 and 200 km/h as the 996TT. Not bad at all. Then again, if there are faster examples, it can't hurt .

    Just, it is slower then fastest 997.1 S(manual) tested by German mags...

    and cars with low milage are usually slower ...

    Last time I was on the track there was a Carrera S that was ' racing' against me. On the straights I puled strongly away from him. I was so surprised at the difference. There is obviously differences between cars

    Guys,

    I will now refer to Nick-when GT-R is too fast we say car is "doctored"... When press 997.2 is underperforming is has a low kilometeres

    Sorry but, I disagree here a lot. That 997.2 with PDK is underperformer!! It is full 1s slower in 0-200km/h then factory claim...
    They also used LC... Better not to talk about it... I spoke this morning with my Motorpresse friend about that test(since some things are not very clear from the article) and he said that AMS was kind to Porsche in this test...

    Just to remaind you-first 997.1 test cars(press cars) were all faster then factory claims when tested by AMS or AZ...

    PDK... For shure test drive before order is a must. If you like the way PDK drives in normal mode then OK... I guess...

    It is a pity!
    After all this effort from Porsche and long wait from prospective buyers, the car to be really a flop. I am thinking very seriously to cancel my order for 11/08 production. Any suggestions of what to buy? It will have to come from a german manufacturer.

    hrm - weird!! I would want to see a manual carrera S with SPASM tested - perhaps it will make a differance

    0-200 (15.8) 1sec. slower !? In which situation in real life that 1sec. has any relevance ??

    It might be irrelevant in real life but the fact of the matter is that they managed to make the FL version slower than the previous one, which is quite frankly a disappointment, to say the least.

    Looking forward to see some other test drives though, especially with manual.

    One strange test does not a bad car make. Test figures especially are a bad way to judge a car. It is a good for comparing relative performance, but on the road the figures don't mean much.

    The only good test is a 300 km drive over roads you know.

    The PDK is a novelty and without trying it first, it's correct for people to feel uneasy about ordering a car with it. But what could you fault on a new 911 with manual box?

    A Porsche is more of a car than being about 0-100 times. It is certainly fast enough, even the "old" 3,6.

    In any group of people, there are the top 2% who are innovators. Then there's 5% that watch closely and copy.Finally there's the remaining 93% that just go where they are told.

    We need more complete tests from a few different magazines to be able to have a serious judgment.
    How can one through the whole car away because of that 1s ?!

    My dealer and friend tested the car on Monday in Spain. He LOVED the PDK , specially on sports chrono mode. The change of gear is so strong that you can feel it in the seat.
    He has driven lots of P.... owns a GT3 and was very impressed with the car.
    So..please...give the car a chance before taking decisions on a few comments.

    First, you are very biased since you order PDK 997 without test drive. You need to justify your buy for yourself, not for me.

    Second, is there a point for feeling the gearchanges in seat backs? With DCT gearbox? Seemsless shifts is the point of DCT gearbox, NOT added surge! You want violent shifts? Go for SMGIII, e-gear(even it is smoother in latest LP560-4) or F1 Superfast... In Sport Plus mode PDK can distabilize the car during shifts since you indeed get violent kick in rear axle...

    I respect you highly so, please be little bit more open minded.

    PDK is in its current form far from perfection IMHO.
