    Worth upgrading from GT3 991.1 to a .2?

    So sales guy let me know the prior owner of my current GT3 turned in his .2 for a RS.  I have a number in my head that would get me to do the trade.  The question I have is has anyone here had both?  Is there a big difference or should I just hold out hope they green light a GT4RS or hope to get a 992 GT3 allocation and just enjoy my .1 GT3?  Is going from the 3.8 to 4.0 liter a big improvement?  The livery may look a little familiar, I of course would remove all the vinyl stripes and stickers and ask they put back on the silver stock wheels.   1st world problems Smiley

    I believe the engine is worth the upgrade. The 3.8 will probably be an uncertainty from the reliability perspective. The key question is the price for the upgrade.

    I didn’t have the 991.1 but the 991.2 is such a joy. Engine is great. And the sound is so awesome.

    All reports I have read on multiple forums have all said Yes, it’s worth it.

    All praise the magnificent engine and drivetrain. Who knows what the 992 GT3 will bring.

    I had the .1 for 2 years.

    I have the .2 since 3 months

    engine is better? Yes.

    Upgrade is worth it? Depending how much you are going to put on the table...

    my .1 did not have the clubsport and was obviously PDK. This one is clubsport and manual.

    If I would be in the position to compare pdk to pdk and clubsport to clubsport...worth the upgrade? not sure..angry

    Without a doubt the .2 is a much better car. The only question is how much you’ll be willing to pay for it.

    .2 engine is worth it alone, it’s  an absolute peach. The torque in the .1 was disappointing but in the .2 it has improved so much making driving enjoyment so much better. .2 all the way if the price suits you.

    The beating the .1 will take due to the .2 engine makes me worry about what Porsche has in store next. Best advice is always sell prior to the next one’s specs are known.  The time to sell the .1 was about 16 months ago.

    I've not had my .1 that long.  I bought in after prices had started downward.  My car would be one of few CPO'd available, and looking at what they are going for now, the price for my car hasn't moved at all.  Of course the dealer will offer quite a bit less on trade as they love to do.

    I'm not worried about the engine so much, it has a 10 year / unlimited mile warranty on it as negotiated by US owners after the whole fire fiasco.

    I'll see what they say, my guess is they'll want too much so may end up being an easy decision.  But the want is strong.

    exactly - the Mk1 had much more of a rattle and raw feeling to it and Mk2 doesn't and despite that the Mk2 in the summary of it's parts is clearly a peach to drive and probably the better car (I can only compare PDK Mk1 to Manual Mk2) the Mk1 GT3 we had was a sweet spot between a RS and a "normal" 911.

    Overall now comparing to the Mk1 RS - I think in general the GT3 is the sweet spot of the line up and the best 911 to buy (mk1 due to price or Mk2 with all the little upgrades...)

    Well, as I kinda expected, they want way too much for the .2 GT3. I'll just keep enjoying my .1 GT3 and see how long the .2 sits on the lot.  Having saved nearly $75K by doing so I can now afford to get a Dundon exhaust...

    Sun had both.  They're both more than can be fully utilized on most roads, but .2 is a great improvement:  rear steering, handling, suspension, looks.  I don't know why you'd want a 992 GT3 turbo except to be fastest [and heaviest].

    Thanks Watt, appreciate the feedback.  I'd only get a 992 GT3 if it's NA.  If it goes turbo I'm not interested.
