    Re: Cayman S 2009

    Precisely.

My plan is to trade my 2006 Cayman S in for a Cayman S Sport.
I am convinced the FL 09 Cayman will not have all the new '997' upgrades when it arrives early 2009. I'd rather wait a while until the new Cayman has all the new gizmos - (end of 2009) before ordering one.
So I'll play with Cayman S Sport in the meantime.

sure congrats for your unique car!

Btw why release a LE Cayman in Fall more or less at the same time of the supposed new FL announcement?

To sell more cars! LE cars are usually released at the end of an existing model run so they can continue to generate interest in the 'old' model.

That is true but I wouldn't say this is the case if you look at the ultra small production numbers for the LE..moreover they don't need to generate interest for 2 or 3 months before the FL introduction..Imho it generates more costs hehe

    Re: Cayman S 2009

Incredible that Porsche is dragging out the delivery of the FL until March of '09. Absolutely astounds me, and even then probably no PSE until later in the year.

    Re: Cayman S 2009

I also remember Porsche ceo Wendelin Wiedeking confirmed all models to have DFI before end 2008..

My understanding is the March '09 delivery will have the DFI engine (310 hp) and the PDK tranny. Don't know about LSD though.

    Re: Cayman S 2009

    310bhp would disappointing

    Re: Cayman S 2009

Cayman S with DFI will have +- 330 BHP.

A little bit optimistic..but wish you were right man hehe

I put my cent on 315bhp..let's see what happens

    Re: Cayman S 2009

Talked to my porsche dealer today, they got allocated 1 car with a build date in October - so I doubt this will be a facelift car but rather a summary of various exclusive options available on a current car....

    Re: Cayman S 2009

one or possibly 2 LE out for about 4 months before introduction of the FL in March..if it turns to be true this is a sad marketing operation

    Re: Cayman S 2009

anyone hear anything about the Cayman RS??

    Re: Cayman S 2009

UPDATE: I just read in another forum (www.porschemania.it) an italian fellow has already put an order for a FL car..don't know if we can trust 100% but however here is what he's saying:

L'avevo scitto in un'altra discussione e forse nessuno ci ha fatto caso:
presentazione nuove boxster e cayman 16 novembre 2008,consegne previste ad oggi per febbrario-marzo.
    Motori:

I will make a short transaltion for non italian readers. Basically he's saying:

Cayman base =265bhp but NO DFI +20bhp
    Cayman S =320 and DFI +25bhp

Also he knew Boxster S model will have different power output:

Boxster S =310bhp So it makes minus 10bhp from the Cayman model..it sounds strange because it's the first time we read the possibility they differentiate the 2 models.

Also he seems well informed because he's been told from a Porsche dealer price would increase by 1.5% and he already got allocated for a new FL car expected to be announced on NOVEMBER, 16th!??
Finally he states deliveries will be on February/March..so the early spring timeframe is more consistent day by day

    Ciao! Gab

    Re: Cayman S 2009

Well Porsche have to justify the Great Cayman Rip-Off (in relation to equivalent Boxster pricing)...

    Re: Cayman S 2009

yes I forgot that..I said it was short!!

    Re: Cayman S 2009

Since Porsche is making a move to improve power and efficiency, it's interesting that they chose a 2.9L non-DFI motor to add power to the base Boxster/Cayman, since this will increase power at the expense of emissions and efficiency (unlike the DFI motors).

If it really is 320 HP, that will be outstanding. Given the weight remains the same, it should have almost the same weight/hp ratio as last year's Carrera S 9.23 vs 8.82. That will be a very fast car around the track!

    Re: Cayman S 2009

320bhp and LSD will have me waving my chequebook like a loon. No PDK though - yet to be convinced my the OMI

From what I've heard, other than the ridiculously counter-intuitiuve paddle setup (which hopefully can be relearned relatively quickly), the PDK is the best twin-clutch tranny out there!

    Re: Cayman S 2009

yes 320bhp and PDK sound just perfect!!

    Re: Cayman S 2009

I'm sure the PDK is an excellent transmission and as someone who has a heavy traffic commute every day, loves weekend blasts and the odd track excursion, it ought to tick every box. But I've driven paddle and the tip cars (with buttons) and the former is far superior. If I'm honest though, the joy of a short shift manual on a B road or track will out-weigh the nuisance of the clutch on the way to work and the OMI is really the final nail in the coffin for PDK

Yes, clutch-type Limited Slip Differential! This is the most overdue option imo and will make a huge improvement.

    Re: Cayman S 2009

what is New VC+ for new 2.9l engine?

    Re: Cayman S 2009

Ciao Andrea! I think VC+ stands for Vario Cam Plus..it is supposed to be an evolution from the previous Vario Cam..btw I don't know which are concrete differences at this time.

    Dimenticavo..molto piacere e a presto!
