SciFrog:Macan is totaled... back to the drawing board... will need something to replace it for the winter. The RRS si still in garage but maybe something as backup. Wife wants an Urus, I would like to try a model X. Ideally a Macan EV but that’s still vaporware.
Urus will be very nice, but I can't justify spending so much on an SUV.
How about the Jaguar E pace? looks good on paper.

I hope everyone is well and nobody was hurt. RIP Macan

I agree with your wife. My kids and my wife as well. So now you know what you have to do.

SciFrog:It is not quite clear but some combination of tiredness and distraction probably...She was not going fast...
Life lesson learned, time to move on. Thank god nothing bad happened to her (and/or your kid).
My wife had some bad stuff happening to her as well, mostly because she was with her thoughts on a different planet. Another mistake my wife makes during driving: She always multitasks too much. She drives, talks on the phone (hands-free though), talks to patients (most distractive), to friends and this can't go well. Told her so many times but she wants to do as much work as possible in the car, so... I am a very good multitasker but talking on the phone in the car distracts me a lot. I hate talking on the phone in the car, I prefer to listen to music or talk to my passenger, both not half as distracting as talking on the phone.

SciFrog:She was not multitasking... I find talking using hands free in the car not that distracting and actually do it often to make more use of the many hours I spend in a car during commuting.
Maybe you are a better multitasker than her...

Taking over the phone (even hands-free) requires more processing power from your brain than taking to a passenger, and the brain cannot in reality multitask, it's not built that way, so it's going to take away from your driving awareness and reaction times significantly even if you are not aware of it.
Also, not every conversation is the same, if the conversation requires you to make decisions for example, that will affect you a lot more than if you are listening to the other person on the phone tell you something about his/her day.
Personally for that reason, I don't talk in the car if I can help it, for example I rarely initiate a calls, I wait till after unless I have to because it cannot wait, and mostly only answer calls, even then with texting now a days, I prefer people to text me and I get back when I can, I don't like the intrusion of my phone ringing all the time. Obviously I never text in the car, the most is a 1 sec glance at the watch to see from who is the message but that's it.

SciFrog:Well I drive with auto cruise control 90% of the time anyway... It helps.
True, that frees up some neuronal real-state. Also its not the same driving on a featureless uneventful highway with auto cruise and speaking on the phone, than driving through city streets (with crossroads, pedestrians, parked cars and low visibility, traffic signs, between cars doing different maneuvers, etc) while on the phone for example.

Leawood911:My older daughter just totaled her SUV. It takes so little to total one of these new cars. She is not hurt. She trusted another driver to let her know it was clear to cross a lane of traffic when she could not see for herself. She totally owned up to it. My girl.
Glad to hear she's ok !! time for a new car now

What is the target audience for this car?
I guess Cayenne is for people who want to be able to put 4 people and their luggage in a car.
Then Macan is for people who want 2 adults and 2 children + a little bit of luggage in a car.
Then the CayCoup is for people who want to transport 4 adults without substantial luggage?
