    Re: 991 GT3 RS

Oh boy,I do want (need...) a RS....!!! laugh

Yeasterday I went to a track day with my brother. First time together this year and first time for him in his new GT3 RS. Last year on this track I was about 1,5 seconds faster than him when we both used a 991 GT3, but yeasterday he wipped my ass and beat me with about two seconds...!!! angel And this AFTER I've been down to Leipzig and practized my skills with a Cup car......

I could have had a bad day, but my conclusion is that this result, in total he gained about 3,5 seconds, is ALL about the car. The GT3 RS is a really amaising and fantastic car !!! kiss (I know, I drove one quit hard in Leipzig.)

Can't wait for the .2 GT3 RS to come and have started to twist ALL the arms needed to be twisted in order to get one...smiley

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

Cool, that is, what I call motivation - keep up this spirit Smiley

However, there is always a bigger fish...just saying...I know for sure that a 718 driver will beat my time (981) on a track most probably this year, but as long as I think of myself to be enjoying myself and not sh.. the pants when driving, this is fine with me. As long as you maintain this 3 sec difference to your brother, I would say: mission accomplished. Smiley

I checked out your other video with the 997 GT3 on Paul Ricard too. That Metzger engine has quite a different sound. Do you notice a big difference in real life too? Which sounds "better"?

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

Interesting thing about that GMG roll cage in the white RS.

He had it installed at my Porsche dealer and my guy actually installed it.

The cage is basically bolted to the body to where the factory cage would, but since North American GT3RS uses a different body shell than rest of the world cars, the body has no reinforcement where the cage mounts. In a severe impact, the cage will stay intact but go straight through the body!

    Re: 991 GT3 RS

Any specific reason why the shell is different in NA?

    Kimi:

It'll only be different in so far as it doesn't have the jig-bored boltholes in the floor for the cage at the A-posts and B-posts, and will not have the added reinforcement plates under the floor intended to spread the load in the event of an impact. No big deal as they can be done retroactively.

They are add-ons specifically for the Clubsport and RS cars, so not even included in RoW GTx cars which were not ordered with a cage.

US lawmakers do not take it as a given that car occupants will be wearing seat belts, in which case a cage could potentially be an additional source of injuries.

And I think harnesses and helmets are really the proper way to use a cage.  Thankfully it's legal to drive with this stuff added after the fact here, just not supplied in a new car - weird...

Well, maybe the reasoning is that if someone is willing to have the cage installed after buying the car, it is someone who really wants one, understands the risks and wears his seatbelts?

Come on. This getting old. There are plenty more crazy laws on the books in Germany and we don't focus blame on obscure stuff. Sometimes I wonder about the stories European media fed the masses. I used to think I would get shot by Indian arrows when I moved here from Austria at 12 years old.  Maybe you need to live here for a bit and then you would be amazed how so much of what you think is true about the US simply is not.  BTW is was born in Germany.
