    Official: cayenne diesel next year !!!

    TopGear just dropped the news on their website. Porsche has annonced a cayenne diesel: a 3.0l V6 diesel taht comes from ... the Audi Q7. It's the same unit, with 237bhp


    God, those cayennes are going to be everywhere in europe, like those X3, X5, Q7, ML's ... diesel.

    Official or unofficial, diesel is a new era and I am confident Porsche will succeed. I love my CTT08 but would never had considered her if I was in Europe (16mpg), maybe a diesel V8 will be on my drive in the future.

    A bit too early or too late for an April fool's joke !!!!

    I doubt we'll have a diesel version on the current generation. For the next one it is highly possible.

    No official announcements yet, but even the most serious German newspapers reported about it. According to the press articles the V6 Diesel (engine sourced from VW) will come in March 2009 with a sticker price of around 55k Euro (German price incl. VAT).

    My dealer confirmed that the diesel is coming early next year in the current generation car. With fuel prices they way they now are Cayenne sales are struggling here and a diesel is badly needed to make the car a more attractive proposition.

    Hybrid will be on next generation, not on the current one. This is official.

    I suspect the Hybrid will carry a significant premium and will be a high-end model... I would say like a GTS or a Turbo, ie in the Euro 80,000 - Euro 110,000 range.

    Cayenne sales are not struggling at all. They will reach an ALL TIME HIGH this fiscal year to around 44,000 units (previous record 41,884 units).

    After 10 month (August-May) sales were already at 37,258 units (+46.5%).

    Yes, sales are weak in Europe but booming in emerging markets and are still solid in the US (+25% after 10 month).

    I seriously doubt we will see a diesel version on this generation.

    I did say sales are struggling in the UK which is traditionally a pretty strong market for Porsche. I doubt quiet UK dealers are buoyed up by the fact that sales are holding up overseas You can now walk into a Porsche centre here and buy a car off the showroom floor. Two years ago that situation would have been inconceivable. I know from very painful experience this week trying to get a trade in value on my 9 month old facelift Cayenne S just how much the market here has fallen out of love with this type of car. The amount of money I have lost on it is frankly scary. I wont be buying another one and will probably pull the plug on the Panamera order I've had in for nearly 2 years as well as I don't relish losing another small fortune on that car.

    ISUK te prices of used Cayennes in the UK are ridiculous, for Pounds20k you can get a used CayenneS. I have decided to keep my Cayenne for a very long time since we use it on family trips to the continent. I've ordered a facelift 997 C4s cab and I hope it holds it's value a bit. But saying that, Porsche are now known to mass produce their cars therefore I'm not holding my breathe on that. How do you think the used F430 market is since you just bought one ? I passed by a dealer in Egham (Maranello) and I could say that there were at least 15 F430s on their forecourt that is scary

    The market for used 430's is very seasonal and has started to pick up, albeit late. Graypaul (who own Maranello) sold quite a few at the end of last week they told me and there were certainly a few in their showroom with sold signs beside them. I had gone there to look at two cars that had been on their website for a couple of months and both had been sold the previous day. Buyers come out when the sun shines.

    The market for all high end cars in the UK is depressed at the moment as the days of cheap finance are over... for the time being anyway. A ploy of many buyers on the used market was to release equity from their home by increasing their mortgage to fund these cars. With the prospect of negative equity now being bandied around by the press this practice has become unviable. I'm budgeting an annual hit of Pounds25k on the 430 which is slightly better than my Gallardo Spyder. As a guide for you on the 997 I just sold my 18 month old high spec turbo through sale or return with my dealer. It was Pounds102.5k list with under 4k miles in a good resale colour of basalt/black leather and they returned me Pounds85k for it which from my research I was very fortunate to get. The Cayenne was a much bigger residual disaster than the 430 will be I'm sure.

    At least my Lambo dealer is honest. If you ask him about resale values he'll tell you that'll you "blow your brains out" but that it should be put into the context that a Lamborghini is not a normal, rational purchase and he's absolutely right
