    997 FL : BOSE Upgrade

    Anybody else noticed that the FL has had the power rating of the BOSE Amp lifted from 325W to 385W. Both old and new systems have 7.1 channels and 13 speakers so it looks like the enhancement is limited to the Amp.

    Still should make for an even better sound from Bose. Cant wait to hear it.

    seems bose incorporated DCI direct current injection into tehir amps

    I wouldn't bother specifying it again. The 997 cabin is so noisy so as to make any enhancements in the sound quality a total waste of time and money at the cost of extra weight.

    Now on the Cayenne it's a very different story and worth the dosh. On the 997 it's just bragging rights.

    I said the same thing to my dealer and particularly as the Porsche sound upgrade is now standard. They have managed to convince me that its a false economy as 2nd hand buyers look for a car at this level to have a "premium" sound system. I have a BMW 1 series convertible with the mid level system which was about a Pounds300 option and its way superior to any of the Bose systems I've had in a 911. I agree though that the Cayenne system is fantastic - shame that I hated the car so much I sold it after 4 months.

    Unlike 20-30 bhp which is definitely noticable in a 3200 pound car, 60 additional watts is virtually meaningless as the watts would effectively need to double to make a significant audible impact. Bose performance is highly dependant on the cabin accoustics which are very poor in the Carrera.

    Bose upgrade doesn't impress me. Consensus seems to be it is marginal for a "premium" system. Plus, their TV advertising shows overpriced products that seem to have "name-recognition" among senior citizens as their strongest selling-points.

    Yep no Bose for me - it is cute that they matched the watt output to the bhp of the car, but I can only ever hear the engine anyway???

    I did not spec Bose in my 2009. I can;t stand the boomy loose bass and harsh treble the Bose systems seem to have. If the stock stereo is not good enough I will go aftermarket.

    I was going to order the bose but everyone is saying to go aftermarket. I thought it was not possible to go aftermarket due to the fibre optic wiring used.

    I'm sorry. What I meant: get the Bose so you can have the speaker holes and grilles and trim. Get ANY Bose, FL upgraded or not. Sorry to mislead.

    Imagine a writer asking a Porsche exec a few months ago what the "power" gain would be in the FL. He could have stated "truthfully" that " in some versions you will see +60 ".

    Ah, I understand, but will going to aftermarket speakers be possible? I was never able to in my Cayenne due to the fibre optic wiring.

    Due to the comparatively poor performance in the first version and since the system is revised anyway, I would be more than surprised if the new Bose system would not offer significant improvements in sound.

    what I noticed on the pricelist is that you can't choose Porsche sound system as an option anymore, whereas you could on my 987 boxster ?

    or maybe the 997's have it as a standard?

    Just rewire? AFAIK, having the holes, and the grilles and all the trim makes things much easier and better looking and _maybe_cheaper for doing a re-fit.

    The sound system plus is standard on the 997
