Holy Cow! No washer fluid ejection ability?

    That suuuuucks. Changes EVERYTHING.

Without washer fluid the thing becomes 50 percent USELESS. Think of dried-on road grime from comuting thru the recent rain/snow/slush.

Thanks W211..., scheesch..., why didn't somebody say that sooner?

Re: To rear wiper or not to rear-wiper that is the

I always thought it looked really cool on the older, air cooled 911s. Makes it look like a real road car capable of long distances. Off course that was then - 22 gallons of gas, spare tires, 12 quarts of oil and no WATER. Now its an 'around town' car without such long distance aspirations (although some of us still use it for this.)
I would prefer the rear wiper but the mention of windnoise on this thread does make me pause.
    Cheers

Re: To rear wiper or not to rear-wiper that is the

From experience living in Switzerland for several years, I found it useful in traffic, or lower speed conditions (heavy rain/sleet/snow/fog) on autobahns. Didn't mind the association back to 70's cars either (which consequently did not then intrude on my view of the rear-end symmetry) and personally didn't really notice the extra wind-noise.
Otherwise - can only concur with normal driving, aerodynamics are such that screen will typically remain dry and clear at decent speeds...

    Gee, sorry MMD.

We just kind of assumed that other people also only expressed strongly-held opinions if they knew something about the subject.

    Funny! Nice work.

What's really strange is there's some engineer with reasoning that decided against water reservoir.

"Za vasher vill be yoozed honly fur ven eet snozz or raynz; not ven eetz dhry!"

I'm guessing that the reasoning was more likely to be that:

"- The wiper will only ever be used by drivers who forget that they have door mirrors and are anal about seeing out through a rain-soaked rear windshield when pulling away from a standstill. For that, they won't need a washer jet.
    - If the rear window is covered in snow they shouldn't use the rear wiper anyway, 'cos it'll overload the wiper motor and cause it to seize up. That's what they have heated exterior mirrors for.
    - Once the car's moving at any speed, the wind will do the trick, even clearing away snow after the rear window heater has melted it."

I can live with that reasoning, since it's worked for me for many years.

Sorry, I didn't even try to do the accent as I am not nearly as good at it as you obviously are.

Accents?! Nothing is better than doing the "Sopranos" for fun after a few beers.

Anyway..., Good work. Hehe. Too bad we aren't getting paid to be funny. Or..., probably a good thing.

    It's a good thing.

    We'd starve.

Re: To rear wiper or not to rear-wiper that is the

I have a rear wiper on my VW Golf and its a great thing... for THAT type of car... very vertical back window with not much car behind it .. .so spray comes up and blocks the window easily at speed. For a 911, the more traditional slant window in back with a much farther back bumper, its not an likely to need one at speed.

I could see needing one on a 911 in two cases.

    1) Backing out of a parking space in a real downpour.
    2) When backing up in a snowfall thats heavy, so after you cleared it by hand, as you back down a road, its building up again to block visibility.

Where I live (Pacific Northwest), it snows, but not enough to need it. We also don't get the really heavy downpours that much either.

I like the option of removing it and capping the thing. It would be nice if Porsche gave us a factory cap to put on it, and the wiper arm and tool to attach it were stowed neatly in an area in the engine bay or in the front trunk.

Had experience 1 last week. Got caught in a thunderstorm downpour and even hail! To escape the hail I exited the road and took a narrow dirtroad in the forrest to get protection from the hail under the trees. When the hail stopped it was still raining like crazy. Had to back out (too narrow to turn) and the wiper came in handy! My girlfriend kept pressing the wiper switch and I could back out on the main road again!

Are you sure that was the reason you drove down the dirtroad into the forest?...and was the wiper switch the only thing your girlfriend kept pressing??

Re: To rear wiper or not to rear-wiper that is the

That's what I was thinking - I would not want the wiper, so she had to sit with me in the forest and get down!
