    Boxster restyling date?

So guys, anybody knows when the new restyling 987 will come out? And do you know if it will have the PDK on the base version?

I do remember that when the 997 come out the Boxster followed like in a 2 months time. But I have no information at this moment about the restyling model.

    Re: Boxster restyling date?

According to "Automobilwoche" (german mag) 987.2 will be presented at the Detroit Motorshow (January)

    Re: Boxster restyling date?

I thought Porsche had decided as of last year not to participate in the Detroit show? Possibly Los Angeles?

I also doubt about the Detroit because apart that Porsche is not going to be there, they always present the cars in Paris or Frankfurt.

    Re: Boxster restyling date?

It will be Los Angeles probably...

    Re: Boxster restyling date?

I would be surprised if we don't see the Boxster FL for USA this Sept. On one hand I can see where Porsche doesn't want to see the Boxster/Cayman steal any of the 997.2's thunder by releasing them at the same time and could delay their release, but it doesn't seem to make sense they would limit MY08 cars for the last year while they try to clear out old inventory and see sales drop way down, then release the same car for MY09 this fall, then in the Spring of '09 (March rumored) put out the facelift as a 2010 model? As great as I think the current 987S is they would have to realize they aren't going to sell very many MY09 Boxster/Caymans in the next 9 months if they do it this way.

    Re: Boxster restyling date?

    I think March 2009

    Re: Boxster restyling date?

    Hi there!!,

Official pictures should be released during late November 2008. Start of production should be scheduled for February 2009..

    Hope I helped!

    See you!,

    Re: Boxster restyling date?

Dealer in California called me and told me that my order for a Boxster S Facelift will not happen until at least February! They stated that they received 0 allocations for Boxsters until Feb Porsche is giving up sales for what? Do they really think that releasing the Facelift Boxster would take away from 911 sales??

    Re: Boxster restyling date?

Has anyone even seen any spyshots? There were dozens available for the MkII 997 but I haven't seen any for the MkII 987 . . .

    Re: Boxster restyling date?

Thanks guys, so it seems that the chances to get a 987 with PDK are still far away.

Yep, apparently Porsche postponed the planned facelift.
Should come early next year(Cayman first?) with higher production numbers around early summer.

Thanks RC, still one question, do you know if the PDK will be available on the 2,7 model also? I don't wan't to create false gossip but because it is the gearbox that replace the tiptronic and the tip was available on the base model I expect the PDK to be available on the 2,7model. Is just that at this moment I have receiven no answer from the dealer in Madrid.

    Re: Boxster restyling date?

There is a lot of 987 inventory at least in the US, and they can be had for considerable discount. It makes sense for Porsche to hold off on the FL for the 987 and focus on the 911. I have some doubt about the success of PDK at $4K USD in the 987s. DFI may increase the HP to 265/315 but the price point will be higher. These are excellent sports cars, but in the US 987 market is generally more price sensitive than the 911 market. More reason to delay the intro and sell the existing inventory.

Thanks Joost. It seems that I did see that thread (mine is the last post!) and forgot about it . . .

    Re: Boxster restyling date?

I know that this will seem like an overly biased statement from someone who will shortly have the outdated model, but I just can't believe that Porsche will wait until 2009 to release the 987.2. Makes me happy that I did not wait for it, as I will have enjoyed driving my '08 for more than one year before the 987.2 is expected for delivery in the U.S. I almost cancelled my last year's order for an '08 when I heard of DFI and PDK and the changes for the 987.2, but now I feel sorry for those who waited for the latest and greatest only to find that horsepower did not go up by 13% as touted, but more like a barely negligible 7%, and they are going to wait almost one more year before they can expect delivery. It just doesn't seem right, and while I have no actual knowledge of it, but my gut believes that Porsche will push up production sooner than what is posted on this thread, so at the very least Porsche can tout the better fuel economy expected of the new model, in the face of rising gas prices. I on the otherhand will be happy to keep my gas guzzling '08 987 S, and take delivery of my all electric Aptera in Feb. '09 (see photo attached), which coincidently costs the same as the differential if I traded my 987 S for a 987.2 S. The range on the Aptera is 120 miles, top speed 90 mph, 0-60 in 9.5 seconds, and recharges in 2 hours on a regular house plug. My friends, as strange as it looks, the electric car is just in its infancy, and represents the future of cars. Porsche will be relegated to a fun novelty to drive on weekends when gas hits $10.00 per gallon, if it doesn't change to market demands at a much quicker pace.

    Re: Boxster restyling date?

Thanks RC, I'm really surprised by the approach Porsche is taking with the Boxster.

Porsche barely camouflaged the 997.2 and 987.2. When the small amount of camo that was used came off the 997.2 there weren't any surprises so we know what we are getting as far as appearance goes with the 987.2. Anyone with a MY05-08 987S should be overjoyed, the styling was so close to perfect that Porsche redesigned the front of the 997.2 to look just like it, and now are going to ugly-up the Boxster facelift with elongated headlights, unnecessary round intakes and Japanese looking tail lights just to muck with it and make it look less like the 997.2.

Maybe I'm in a grumpy mood today but so far the biggest upside I see for the 987.2 and its delay is within a year of the 987.2 release we'll probably have spy shots of a Boxster 988 or 981.

Gee, and I thought I was the only person NOT impressed with the styling changes of the 987.2 facelift. Ipod connectivity will be nice though....

    Re: Boxster restyling date?

Thanks for the pics! Unable to stand the masking tape, I "took it off" with a little photoshop. ...Uh, not sure am I about the pointy headlights.

    ...

I bet Porsche wanted you to think this...

    Re: Boxster restyling date?

But in fact, do the more inwardly pointed headlights remind you of something else??

    Re: Boxster restyling date?

Keep in mind that I am potentially biased, as I have the current 987S. In all fairness, I don't think that the styling "updates" are all that different. I do think I will appreciate more the added iPod connectivity and bluetooth features.

    ...

    ...

    Re: Boxster restyling date?

I'm more inclined to think that the interior of the light will carry over many parts from the restyled 997 light, as is in fact with the actual 987. The main lights are in fact the ones from the 997.

    Re: Boxster restyling date?

I'm biased as well as I currently own a 987S, and am still not digging the styling updates, especially to the front intakes and the rear lights. I do like the expected 20hp increase in power, and better fuel economy, who wouldn't.. As far as bluetooth and ipod that I can work around with the existing 987S. Funny thing is that I like the 997 facelift as it looks more like the existing 987 front end.
