    new 3.4 engine 996

Just have my new engine. A $25K nice surprise from PAG.
Anyway, I noticed (even during break in) that the new engine is much smoother than my old block. How is this possible? Did anyone experience an engine change on a 996?

    Cheers

    Re: new 3.4 engine 996

Thought the same thing here but I chalked it up to the "placebo effect" i.e. the engine is new so my brain wants to think it's better and smoother. I've put about 3K miles on the replacement engine and I'd say it feels like the original motor.

yes, you are right, surely placebo effect...I did not drive the car for over a month thanks to this repair, so I must have forgotten how it was in the first place

    Re: new 3.4 engine 996

Did they replace the engine under warranty? That's a good thing to hear!
Congrats, hope you'll stay clear of RMS now!

    Re: new 3.4 engine 996

Keep in mind he's probably doing a currency conversion which makes the price seem higher than it might actually be if it were done in the US. (Am I correct in that assumption?)

For mine, I did have the RMS issue relatively early with the car (it's a '99) and the engine failed at the 75K mile mark. Porsche worked with me and split the cost of the engine ($11K - my cost was $5,500). I had to pay for the labor and I ended up replacing the clutch since the engine was already out of the car so the total out of pocket bill for me was about $10K.

    No currency conversion? 1 CHF = 1USD...
We just get ripped for everything we buy in Europe compared to the US. And that is valid from iPods made in China to Porsches...made in the neighboring country

    Re: new 3.4 engine 996

Probably I'm boring you with my question, but what was the reason for the replacment??

I'm having the same car, same engine and a valveproblem on the left side of the car. Are you experienced with that bug?

    Thanks for your answer, Michael...

Hello, a problem with a piston. They said they could not open the engine to fix, and anyway would hardly be cheaper than a new engine, with no guarantee of success or warranty of any kind...
If your engine makes a tac tac tac noise....well, get rid of the car or get a new engine.

How much did the car have on the clock ?

    Re: new 3.4 engine 996

    83'000km....

    Re: new 3.4 engine 996

I'm getting rid of the car now. The mechanic recommendet a new engine. This costs were not covered by my insurance I made. So I'm organizing another car with my carseller, he was understanding the problem. I had the car only for 4 months an 3000 kilometers.

I thought Porsche engines are not a problem also in high mileage...
