Re: Valencia Street Circuit F1 GP August 2008

this looks promising! new exciting circuit. Is this the race at night?

Re: Valencia Street Circuit F1 GP August 2008

No, Singapore is the night race.

Strange how street circuits are suddenly coming back en vogue.

Yeah, it's very unfortunate because races on street races tend to be pure parades with zero excitement. Rain is the only thing that can make a street circuit viewer friendly.

Re: Valencia Street Circuit F1 GP August 2008

Cool pics, but wait, the race is in August 2008 and the track is not even done yet?!

Re: Valencia Street Circuit F1 GP August 2008

I watched the whole session of first practice last night. Impressive circuit! There are a few places for overtaking for sure, unlike Monaco. Btw, Melbourne is also a street circuit, but it isn't just a parade type of circuit. Look forward to Qualifying tonight and of course the race tomorrow.

Re: Valencia Street Circuit F1 GP August 2008

Massa on Pole and Hamilton in second.

So, when is the Rennteam track day on this track then?

Re: Valencia Street Circuit F1 GP August 2008

Good to see my yacht is already there waiting for me in case I decide to go.

Re: Valencia Street Circuit F1 GP August 2008

9.5 hours to race start, appx 12 hours to race result.
    This is the best time!!!!

Re: Valencia Street Circuit F1 GP August 2008

    Alonso 11th

Re: Valencia Street Circuit F1 GP August 2008

I saw him as qualifying 12th. Is this a race prediction?
    (did I miss some news?)????

Re: Valencia Street Circuit F1 GP August 2008

    Hi Gladstone,

Would be nice though (sorry I am not a great Alonso fan), no your are right he qualified even worse, got it wrong.

Lewis to beat Massa, my prediction !!!!!!

Re: Valencia Street Circuit F1 GP August 2008

I really hope Massa wins this one. He deserve it after the last race. He really should be leading the championship. He has had some pretty rotten luck.

Re: Valencia Street Circuit F1 GP August 2008

    What a rotten race.
While the drivers and teams may love the circuit, I really don't understand how they can replace NBR GP track with this one. It's virtually impossible to overtake and hence not very interesting to watch.
The only excitement came from Ferrari whose reliability is very questionable and also seem to lack in the pit stop department.
A stupid mistake from Massa that should have given him a penalty.
Only because the officials didnt have the balls to call the ruling on an incident similar to the one in the GP2 (that resulted in a drive-thru) did Massa keep his lead.
Instead he will probably either get some lame fine or even lamer 5-place penalty the next race.
Nice to know that you can always squeeze your opponent after pitting with no consequence. D'oh!
Kimi apparently decided it was time to kill one of his mechanics. He clearly had a red light in his electronic pit-lollipop and still floored it.
Seems Ferrari's pitwork needs a bit of tweaking.
I sure hope the mechanic is ok. Poor fella. Looked really bad.

All in all a pretty boring race. I hope they pick another track for next year's EU GP.

Re: Valencia Street Circuit F1 GP August 2008

First of all, ITV broadcasting sucks! Thank god F1 is moving over to BBC next season.

I thought the race would be more entertaining but apparently Valenica is such a long semi-narrow track which is ridiculously easy to drive making the top performer dwell away into the horizon increasing the gap with each lap. Just look at how Massa and Hamilton finished over 30 second ahead of the field. I can't recall one single overtaking from the race! It it wasn't for Ferrari's messing up, the race would have been a complete bore. Waste of money to say the least track to say the least, although a demanding track Barcelona is just as boring. Attendance for next year is bound to drop.

Massa loves it when the weather is hot and this is another proof of it. He drives like a master when the track temperature is exotic. Sadly he's not going to retain his deserved victory for this lap. Given how strict FIA are when it comes to breech of regulations in the pit there is no question in my mind that Massa will get penalized for it. That was one of most unsafe pit releases I've ever seen and could have resulted in disaster. Ferrari obviously wanted to release him ahead Sutil in order not to ruin his pace getting stuck behind slow car giving Hamilton a chance to catch up. Kimi's engine turning into Italian toast is another embarrassment from Ferrari. Massa getting the victory taken away from him will be devastating for him since if it wasn't for the Hungary he would be in a very big lead right now, especially in relation to his teammate. Massa really had the victory in the bag, too bad his team messed up.

Re: Valencia Street Circuit F1 GP August 2008

Listening to Massa's view of the pit lane incident made me laugh!

The man is either naive or he thinks that 100+ million viewers are stupid and cannot understand.

Re: Valencia Street Circuit F1 GP August 2008

Not sure the stewards would have the balls to take the win away or impose a 10 seconds drop. They'll cop out with a 10 place drop at the next quali at most. A drive through would have been the appropriate reprimand and would have at least added some excitement to watch him chase down Hamilton. Having said all that Massa did deserve the win.

It was an utterly dull race. Let's hope Singapore is a better circuit than this.

That is penalty they won't hand out since it has got to do nothing with this weekend's race at all. Obviously FIA are stupid for not issuing a penalty during the course of the race and are now going to look like jerks stripping Massa off his victory. A drive through penalty is the most suitable way to go and I suspect a 20 or 25 second penalty is what Ferrari are to expect at the minimum and in the end it wouldn't be too bad since Massa would still be a top three finisher. Rather that than issuing a 3 or 10 place drop which isn't very unorthodox when it comes to security breech in the pit lane. Just look at the punishments people get for speeding, driving against red light and bumping into another driver in the pit lane. In other words if you breech a regulation in the pit lane they you are bound to be punished hard for it.

On the other hand you do make a good point. Stripping a vitory off a driver after the race isn't right, especially if you had the chance to punish the driver during the race. So a 10 place drop might actually be in place which IMO is worse than a 10 second drop. Starting in 10 positions back on the grid he'll probably end up wrecking his race like Hamilton did in France. In the worse case he might get into trouble in the midfield and end up scoring zero points. So Ferrari better pray for a 10-25 second penalty.

Re: Valencia Street Circuit F1 GP August 2008

The words from FIA are out and apparently all Massa got was an insignificant Euro 10 000 that's barely pocket money in the F1 business.

    What a joke!!

Ferrari have the FIA in their pocket, as if another proof was needed.

Re: Valencia Street Circuit F1 GP August 2008

    Incredible!!

Re: Valencia Street Circuit F1 GP August 2008

Ferrari International Assistance (FIA) at work.

Re: Valencia Street Circuit F1 GP August 2008

Interesting to see Ferrari haters willing to have their supporting driver (mainly Lewis) inherit victory in any way, be it a mechanical failure, or a lame penalty for an incident in the pit lane for which the driver had no responsibility, and for which absolutely nothing was effected in the unfolding of the race.

Be bitter as much as you want.
Massa is consistently better than Lewis in the last couple of races and depriving him victory by penalty for an incident that had no effected in anyone's race, is ridiculous.

Also, before going on and start debating on this matter of the pit lane incident, can someone quote the ruling in FIA rulebook on what is written in regards to such situations?

    John

Re: Valencia Street Circuit F1 GP August 2008

To sum up the race it was a Ferrari FIAsco.

Re: Valencia Street Circuit F1 GP August 2008

You make a big mistake! I'm no Lewis fan.
I was actually relieved he didn't win.
The problem is that you can't make up rules and then apply them selectively.
The actual wording of that particular rule was quoted by Martin Brundle during the race .
