Why? It actually looks really promising to me. And as we can see already, its gonna have a metal roof. I really hope they can keep the weight down and wont fu** it up, like on the 3 series.

I was told that new Z4 will defenetly have metal roof. Also speculations are that soft top will be available too, but my friend from BMW didn't confirmed that, he said he don't know... Also he was right that new Z4 will have similar rear to 6 series or z9 concept. So lets hope he is right about front, that it will have similarities with CS concept.

From what we can see, I think it will be very nice car. Im also sure it will also perform very well and will be very fun to drive.

The above posts from BC911 and from myself (referring to Chris Bangle being supplied with LSD) are meant as comments on the 1968 hippy-style psychadelic camouflage of this particular test car.

Ups then it was misunderstanding. I thought he meant Im to "obsessed" with new z4... thanx for explanation

But I can't wait for it after I drove friend's Z4 M Coupe last month, it was really fun to drive. So I will put a deposit for new Z4 as soon as it will be possible

I dont like that steel roof trend. For me a roadster needs to have a textile head. Looks much more sporty and light.

Re: Next BMW Z4 with V8 from new M3

Interestingly the most expensive convertible in the world (Rolls Royce) chose to use fabric roof!

Yep - V8 Z4 will have same problem as V8 M3 Cab if it has a metal roof... More weight = Little performance improvement over last generation.

PLUS with that big V8 lump "deprecation" will be HUGE - as if it wasn't already on the Z4M (at least here in the UK).

BMW never learn from the past... <YAWN> It would be nice to se something interesting from them someday.

BMW will use lighter materials for new Z4, for example full aluminium front end, magnesium crankcases and engine blocks and aluminium body panels. Folding hardtop offers a lighter steel than used in the E93 3 Cabrio.

And with steel roof on Z4 they leave more space for new Z2, which will have fabric roof.

BMW said they used lighter materials for the E92 M3... It's still a lot heavier than the E46 though!

Its hard to compare new and old M3 , because new M3 is bigger, got bigger engine (4200 ccm V8 is heavier than 3400 ccm R6)... E46 M3 and E92 335i is better comparison... But important is that new M3 is faster and better to drive than old one, despite higher weight.

I think the only engine which will be same in old and new Z4 is 2500 ccm R6 218 hp and I bet that new Z4 with this engine will have similar weight to current Z4, despite steel roof. And since Ferrari used steel roof for their car, I think BMW can use it too, since new Z4 defenetly isn't sportier than new Ferrari California

I would rather got fabric roof on new Z4, but only steel roof will be offered. That also means there won't be coupe version of new Z4

    WRONG !!!
The old engine displacement was 3.215 ccm; inline 6 and it is heavier than the new 4.0 V8 that has a displacement of 3.998 ccm.

You're right, its 3200 ccm and not 3400 ccm. Looks like I made typing mistake. But I didn't know that engine in E46 M3 is heavier than engine in new E92 M3... Anyway, new Z4 should keep similar weight to current Z4 despite hardtop roof.

    Some new interior photos:

Buttons are similar to buttons in CS concept. And central dashboard is oriented toward driver

Nor me. If the M3 cabrio is anything to go by, which is nearly a quarter of a tonne heavier than the coupe, and nearly all the luggage room goes when the roof is folded. It's with very good reasons Porsche have shunned metal folding roofs!

BMW have never been good at sports cars. The Z3 was rubbish and the Z4 is also rubbish. I can't see this new one will be any good either, with all that weight. An SLK with a BMW badge

Disagree. There is more to a good sports car than straight line acceleration. Power to weight is the important figure, and it is better achieving that with light weight than with more power. The way Porsche do it, in fact.

Its to early to talk about weight... New Z4 will keep similar weight to current Z4 despite metal roof, it will have better platform, better weight ratio, better engines...

Boxster S could be lighter, but is almost 10 seconds slower to current Z4 M on Nurburgring and new Z4 is going to be faster than current Z4.

Don't be suprised if Porsche will use metal roof some day. Did you expect diesel to be in Porsche ? Mercedes, BMW, now even Ferrari use metal roof , so I guess that is what buyers wants. Metal roof on new Z4 will be a lot lighter than roof on E93 cabrio.

Thats really dissapointing that there wont be a coupe version. In my opinion that should be at least an option for the next Z4M. I dont want the extra weight, lack of boot space and compromised handling.

I hope there will be a coupe version.

Im assuming it will have MDCT as well?
