New turbo has a loud clackety-clack at idle that I don't remember hearing before first service at 2,000 miles. The car has never been abused, in fact, underutilized! I've heard that flat sixes have noisy valves but it's unnerving. No performance trouble, can't hear it when driving. Only 2,600 miles now. Been running it hard lately, but sound preceded that. Anyone with similar experience? I hesitate to compare to my C4S since that engines are so different.
For 20s or less, cold 911 engines, including TT/GT3 do have a clickety-clackety sound. It goes away after that though. These engines idle very round with a normal low-frequency (0.3Hz) idle flutter, considering their high-revving cam design, Variocam notwithstanding. These old GT1 engines are unnecessarily complex with their secondary shaft and all. PAG redesigned the M97 for all reasons and also that and it does not surprise me at all if future TTs and GT3s do come with the new block - not a bad thing, contrary to the primary reaction of TT owners who think the old GT1 engine is all that it can be - NOT. You should take your car in to be checked.
