    The Veyron tranny costs as much as a Carrera. Not to mention that it doesn't weigh much less either .

    Easy_rider hit it on the button although one point is that PDK is more fool proof. I would love to have PDK on my next porsche if given the chance but manual is still will always be king.

    No experience with PDK, just opinions here! This is a matter of personal preference so I don't think one could be "better" than the other. I am a manual die-hard, big time, but must admit some temptation for the PDK. It's not the objective faster time that I am after, but the hope that PDK will make the acceleration process more continuous in nature and therefore subjectively more satisfying. That is, something better than accelerate ... pause ... accelerate ... pause. The pause between gears during manual shifting, particularly between 1st and 2nd with its associated nose diving, bothers me. In this sense I hope that PDK shift will be much faster and seamless than the average manual shift by an amateur driver.

    I too think that the paddle shifters on steering column seems to be a much better idea than steering wheel buttons, for the simple reason that it is in a fixed location. Buttons on the steering wheel will make you search for them during turning maybe? But on this, maybe we should wait for real users' reports; one never knows.

    My second Porsche will have PDK, hopefully by then second generation PDK with paddle shifters on 998.

    Just read that the current PDK can only handle up to 440Nm torque. The stock Turbo has 620/680Nm (Normal/Sports-Overboost) and my car has over 800Nm with just a Stage II aftermarket kit on it.

    I think it's going to take more than just tinkering to get 440Nm over 800Nm!!

    Are you referring to Model Year or calendar year??

    Based on current rumors/info, it looks like the FL Turbo is going to be a 2010 model year (out Summer 2009).
