Re: what to do - RS headache... frustating!!

    Ipod anyone?

Re: what to do - RS headache... frustating!!

Advice - look before you leap

after the fact, have some installed or a man of your means could afford some nicely equipped commuter car.

Personally I prefer the sound of my exhaust to music as I only drive it for fun. Why do people, especially men have to listen to music constantly?

Re: what to do - RS headache... frustating!!

There is only one thing to do, replace the suspension with a softer one, get big comfy seats installed, and upgrade the stereo to something from pimp my ride. I can't believe Porsche does not offer a sunroof option on the RS!!!

Re: what to do - RS headache... frustating!!

You guys are ridiculous... He didn't say he was going to listen to the stereo "all the time"... And your preachy dreamy romantic ramblings of how a "pure sports car should be driven" are so syrupy and melodramatic, I'm about to cough up a hairball...

Jeez, the guy just wants some adequate tunes available in his toy-car... At least he intends to DRIVE IT, I woulda thought you'd be applauding him for that at least...

You forget these things are cars, and try to build them up as if they were physical manifestations of religion....

Thou shalt drive with $500 driving shoes, in the rain, during bug season, with the windows down, at dawn, with a helmet, naked.... Harken to thy Gospel, lest ye be a HERETIC!!

Re: what to do - RS headache... frustating!!

What can I say, purists love their witch hunts of anyone who dares to whisper "comfort"

Of course everyone is entitled to modding their cars in tasteless, performance compromising ways that destroy the original intent of buying a specific car (RS) in the first place... I think theres a place for that... it's called 6speedonline.

Oh Geeyawd.... If you say that installing a couple speakers and an amp is "tasteless" and "performance compromising", then I'll have to ask everyone here who's got a little pudge around their middle to lose 10 pounds...

Don't put too much gas in your RS.... it'll compromise performance!!

Re: what to do - RS headache... frustating!!

Absolutely nothing wrong with a tiny bit of comfort with all of that awesome performance! Notice the cooling systems the race drivers have these days - some of you guys are stuck in the Stone Age.

A few added speakers, etc. should do the trick!

    Congrats, Adam - enjoy!

Re: what to do - RS headache... frustating!!

nothing wrong with having a track car, and some nice speakers to enjoy some tunes ON and OFF the track! go to a specialist, and have some decent aftermarket speakers installed...

Re: what to do - RS headache... frustating!!

I've gotta imagine that blasting Faith No More would shave at least two seconds from my lap-times!!!

Re: what to do - RS headache... frustating!!

i really have to say i havent read soo much bulls..t in a long time...i followed this link from the beginning on and understood that the guy was simply wondering about the fact that his RS didnt have speakers in the rear..i mean whats so weird about that? yes, if u dont have anything to do in life besides studying every little detail about p cars and then be smart about them online you might have known better but there are also people who just wanna enjoy the car and drive it! and he does drive it, on the track!
the funny thing is, all the purists' comments about the RS come from people who only get to enjoy the RS with standard carrera sports seats and no rollcage in the back is that still puristic?
to me its much more meaningful to have such a car and actually drive it all year long instead of going on about how pure the car has to be and then just put it in some garage or to use it for some poser runs through the city...

Re: what to do - RS headache... frustating!!

First of all, let me thank all of those who chose to understand my question for what it is and respond without the bitter cynical comments.

I simply wanted to know if the previous owner had taken out the speakers, which would have been an indication of possible extensive track use, which would lead me to check the engine further, such as dyno it for abuse.

My second concern was wether or not the dealer failed to disclose, which could have gotten me some $ back. That was it fellas...

I'm not adding speakers to the car, and even if I did, it would be completely justified.

I think those that complained really aren't the purists.

Cause if they had been, they would know like me, that after spending 13 to 14 hours driving the car, mostly on track in temperatures up to 117 degrees F, that the 2 hours drive home afterwards DEMANDS some music, if nothing else but to keep you awake and therefore alive.

As for the performance aspect, to say that 2 speakers would compromise performance is being completely ridiculous. I'll take you on in a car with 10 more speakers on track any day and show you how little that means.

You're better off working on your skills and loose some weight if you really wanna have more performance.

As for paying over sticker, I could not sleep for 3 days before the purchase, so yes it's a big purchase, but I did it because it's my passion and I am a real purist, and it was the ONLY way to get this car...

So there, let me thank those who supported me...

    You tell 'em!

Re: what to do - RS headache... frustating!!

hehe... I chose the mild approach :-)

Re: what to do - RS headache... frustating!!

    And the high road!

Re: what to do - RS headache... frustating!!

    Adam,
I owe you an apology and I hope that you accept it. I was far too harsh on you regarding your purchase of the RS. You got the car you deisred and I am happy for you. I hope that you find a solution to the speaker issue.
Again my sincerest apologies. Enjoy the car in good health!

Re: what to do - RS headache... frustating!!

Good on ya for setting them straight Adam. You've made a great choice in car and there's no harm in some quality sound to increase the enjoyment. Pop a set of Boston Acoustics Pros in the back, its the kind of weight penalty youd be happy carrying....

Re: what to do - RS headache... frustating!!

I don't have an RS, but I have a 7 GT3 with the same crappy stereo. I also have an aftermarket exhaust (Cargraphic 6) as most folks do or eventually end-up getting and I doubt that that the premium sound system would make that much of a difference. The car is loud inside so the extra $$$ for premium sound are probably wasted.

My advice, don't hack-up your car to put in rear speakers. You'll get use to the crappy stereo and it will be good enough (I use my car as a daily driver too). I typically only use it in stop-and-go traffic. Once I'm free, I turn off the stereo because nothing can compete w/ the beautiful sound of that flat 6!

Finally, you save a little weight over the premium sound system so there's a silver lining for you.

Re: what to do - RS headache... frustating!!

Same crappy radio in my GT3. No rear speakers. It's listenable, but after a few minutes, it gets abrasive. Plus, you have to turn it up quite loud to be able to hear it about the engine. Rear speakers might make it a bit louder, but it's still gonna sound kinda crappy.

I'm a stereo guy too. But I've opted not to screw with the car. Even the BOSE system I have in my C2S was awful, as better as it was over the GT3 stereo. If you really want a good stereo, I think you'll always be disappointed with whatever you put in the car. It's just too far from a good listening environment.

Re: what to do - RS headache... frustating!!

agreed... that's why I'm leaving it as is...

Re: what to do - RS headache... frustating!!

Let us know what you end up doing. I may follow your lead.

Re: what to do - RS headache... frustating!!

I hardly use the Bose on my S....much prefer PSE.

Adam - have you considered adding headphones for those trips home from the track?

That would be very dangerous IMHO.

Re: what to do - RS headache... frustating!!

    Adam s-

There are no rear speakers that come with the RS (at least in the states). I love my car, also like music for daily driving. I hooked up higher quality speakers in the front and back, and the sound is great - although the roar of the car on the track (or street) is fabulous.

Re: what to do - RS headache... frustating!!

If you need a sterio buy another car!

To put such stuff in a RS Porsche is a shame for the History of Porsche and for what the RS was engineered for.

This car is all about saving weight, that's why it has no heavy luxury options!!

It is a homologation model for use in a range of racing series.

BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH..... BLAH BLAH.....

I tried to turn up the speaker on my computer to hear the world's smallest violin playing during his post, but I couldn't hear anything over the pure hum of my computer's cooling fan...

Re: what to do - RS headache... frustating!!

The poster tracks his GT3 RS. How many of the righteous 'purists' who object to his question can say the same?

Re: what to do - RS headache... frustating!!

It's people who are so caught up in the IDEA of a purpose-bred machine, that they lose sight of planet earth, and take the concept to an agonizing nth degree that would make the engineers who built the car chuckle...

Hell, I'd want a cup holder too so I could sip on a giant ice-water on the way home from the track... HERESY!!

Re: what to do - RS headache... frustating!!

Let him do what he wants with his car !!
Specially that he seems to be a smart and reasonable guy.

Re: what to do - RS headache... frustating!!

People are paying nearly $200,000 for a used RS? Gees. Might as well get a GT2...
